I am getting a quote for prototyping the center console I made.

The run would be of 20 of them in polyurethane... same shape as the one I have in my car as it would be molded off it.

They would need to be covered in leather or a nice CF decal of course...

I am after expressions of interest. Would people be interested in buying these?

They fit a yum cha 10" lcd touch screen... which I would need to confirm the availability and size of (I purchased mine for ~$AU300 delivered off ebay)...

Fit the aircon obviously and have a std single din slot at the bottom.

I have nfi on the price... what would you be willing to pay?

I would be interested if you could do a 7" version of it.

Agreed, a double-din version of it would be nice. As awesome as it would be to have 10" in there, I think that would attract too much attention (ie. thieves).

Also, does anyone know how to fabricate stuff like this? I'd like to (possibly mass-) fabricate something to replace the clock on the top of the dash to house things like gauge pods or a display.

You just need one prototype item Jason. Once you have a finished product, that can be used to take a mould and then go from there to mass production.

Peter M is probably a good bet as a Club trader and fabricator or parts.

If I can get hold of a spare clock unit, I could attempt to make one myself with fibreglass and filler.

i vote 7" aswell..
Foxdie- oi have produced a fibreglass cover that replaces the clock unit for that specific rason too..
however i am YET to tidy the ends up and fit it and mount the guages in it tho....

Cool can you post pics?

Me and Atik were idly throwing ideas around of building a single DIN pod to dock into the clock bay, naturally it would extend outwards but would still be "in theme" but offer so many options, like allow people to have a double-DIN Car PC screen AND a head unit fitted :)

I want a USB display in the clock binnacle. A colour one. That can do full, windows API. Like Sideshow. Only better. If you can do it, I'll love you forever.

7" version would be awesome. Are you using off the shelf software / hardware of developed you own?

I'd been keen for either you decide to do. Been planning on putting in a carputer for a long time, and this would make things easier! Been procrastinating running cables to boot in case I stick an proper PC with a decent sound card in there :D

One of the products me and Atik have been researching into is a 4.3" TFT VGA monitor kit (http://trackmygps.co.uk/files/pspvga.pdf) that uses the same TFT panel from a Sony PSP, the resolution is only 480x272 but the screen is bright and vibrant.

We can get them for a supplier for £68.42+VAT each but the only downside is the minimum buy is 11 units (which puts the price up to just shy of £885 incl. VAT)

I've managed to get my 7" screen into the dash without cutting anything major up. It doesn't look bad, but not great - will put some pics up for you guys. Suspecting I can also mount it another way to make it look more standard.

I have been looking into this + looks like the cheapest place with the largest range of products is store.mp3car.com. If you want an off the shelf bit of software to save you the hassle of writing your own, centrafuse looks like the way forward

Yes, I have been looking to use centrafuse, probably with the relay-board plug-in so i can use the cap pc to control other things..

so did this ever get made? my other car has a 12" screen and would rather have a 10 than a 7 (size counts)

I've put an 8" 16:9 touchscreen in the double-din space. Required a little Dremel work. My car PC is housed in the void behind so no wires required to run to the boot etc. I used an Intel "Little Falls 2" mobo which runs Windows really well.

Having said that, the 10in screen is sweet but I'm so used to 16:9 format now.
