Gather you need to heat with hot air to stop paint cracking. There's loads of demos on you tube.(good & bad)

my arches were already done on mine they are ok but the one problem that i can only see is if you dont keep polishing ye car and looking after it then they could rust faster than the normal arches as they can hold a bit of water in them.

i've been thinking about if getting the arches rolled would then be possible to fit larger wheels, say 18 by 8.5 or even 9

On my VR2 (1999) both front & rear arches are rolled. Fronts are okay, rears are rusted as bad as you'd ever seen...

you have to make sure the inside of the arches is perfectly clean before rolling and after the rolling either paint of underseal applied to stop any wet dirt/mud that might accumulate in the fold from causing any issues. also if you get any paint cracking/splitting on the outside of the fold you must be ready to treat it straight away.
but if you apply enough heat there should be no cracking anyway.

it is not the diamiter of the wheel that is the problem it is the width.

I used to have 225/40/18 on my car and swapped to 235/45/17 (evo wheels for brembo) and the rear started ti rub when i loaded up with some lardy mates or had a load of stuff in the boot and only when going over speed bumps and down dips at speed.

i would say 235 is too wide if you don't want to roll your arches. you might get away with it but there are no garentees.

i did have 245/40/17 on but i have changed now to 235/45/17 cos i wanted to get the car a bit higher up so i stop hitting speed humps
