Noticed on the front of my car it has CEAT Tornados, and on the back are Michelin Sports.

Should I swap them round so the Michelins are on the front, as apparently although brand new the CEAT ones are pants.

Can't afford to replace them at the moment though.

I've always been told to have the better tyres on the back. What size tyres are they? Might be worth checking ebay for some branded part worns, since ceat sound like a grade ditch finders!

Newer tyres should go on the rear even for fwd vehicles.

To give you some idea - We used to have a non-turbo diesel Golf with 13" wheels. We got 4 new CEAT tyres for that as we felt they'd cope with the 60-odd horsepower that the Golf knocked out. They're not the cheapest of the cheap, but they are a budget brand.

With regard to what tyres where on your car - General rule is most tread goes on the back... better to loose grip at the front before the rear!

Cheers Kieran, thats the philosophy I used on my BMWs obviously as they are RWD, I thought it'd be different with a FWD car.

I agree that yes, understeer is much easier to deal with than oversteer, especially if you aren't trying at all and it suddenly steps out on you for no reason other than that you have crap tyres on the rear!

However if the level of grip is very close, ie the same type of tyre front and rear but 1mm or 2mm of tread difference, I'd go with more tread at the front. It is highly unlikely that you'd ever get oversteer just from doing that, and the front tyres will wear down quicker anyway!

There is likely to be a very large difference in grip between ceat and anything that michelin makes, so I'd put the michelin's on the back and enjoy spinning up the ceat's on the front to try and burn through them quickly :)

By the looks of it and the previous advisory notice they were only put on it to pass an MOT.

Off topic here, I put my car into Kwik-Fit's website for tyres and it said I should have 18" 255s on it, ffs do they think it's a tractor.

For your Galant sport stock will most likely be 195/60/15 or 215/45/17
