hey guys My names heath and i recently brought myself a Legnum VR4 and im loving it! it goes sweet huge upgrade from my last car (toyota celica GT4).

Iv just got a few questions about them,
First: can you change the gps from jap to nz ?
second: can you switch the tv from ntsc to pal?
third: i recently put a boost gauge in, when boosting it gets up to about 14psi (ish)
i throught these ran 7psi standard in the auto models? i dont think its had any aftermarket work on it, would it be showing that amount of boost because its twin turbo. (sorry only owned single turbos) and if so whats the max this engine can handle b4 fuel cut.

thanx in advanced.

heya man welcome to the club.
the pre facelift autos are only supposed to run 7psi so you must have some kind of boost control in ther that you dont know about. sorry i cannot help with the gps problem

The max boost they can handle depends on many factors. Quality of fuel, quality and age of spark plugs, presence of boost leaks, whether it has a pod filter, etc etc. What you're seeing sounds like a typical value for a well working car with a boost controller though.

A boost controller can be very small and on these cars CAN be put in odd, hard to find places. Of course.. your wastegate actuators could be stuck.. does it take a while to spool up?

First: can you change the gps from jap to nz ?

NO

second: can you switch the tv from ntsc to pal?

NO

...

But you can change the interface from Japanese to English with a new boot CD.

And since you have the TV tuner you will have a (NTSC) A/V input that you can use to plug in an mp3 player, reversing camera etc

smohekey: nope its spoils up nice and fast, ill take a look around see if i can find a controller, maybe even ask the pervious owner.

eyeballprawn: i have tried to locate the a/v inputs on it but no luck, its a 1996 with mmcs any clues where to look.

/Welcome

Definitely sounds like a boost controller hiding somewhere! Probably an MBC tucked under the inlet pipework, or the like.

Anyway, pics? /Camera

Easiest thing to use is in the advanced post window (i.e. not the quick reply box) - click on the attachments manager (the paperclip) and upload them through that.

It's definitely a warm-spec pre-facelift auto! :smart:

You'll probably notice a slight gap between your front grille and the top of your bumper, because the facelift grille extends onto the bumper very slightly, but that's not been changed on yours.

It also looks like (not always easy to tell in pics!) that you have the nice and rare Finesse Green!

You can use an English boot disk, but most of it still appears in Jap. Although its a cool feature, when my mate bought one, he changed the centre console to a standard one, put in the normal climate control & then fitted a carputer in the place of the doubled in head unit. Depending on how clued up you are with software development, either buy an off the shelf carputer (car-computer) or might be worth trying to hack the firmware & building the climate control into the same unit. Run linux & use a laptop standby switch to your ignition & you don't have to worry about waiting for it to boot up. You can connect to net, bluetooth, whatever you want really. Or you could learn Japanese!
