Last night i let my mate sober drive the vr4 and the speedo was working fine all day but yet when he started driven we had no speedo or odometer? seems weird as it was just parked in the car park as per usual and i hadn't been tinkering with anything. have no idea where to start looking for faults. the revmeter works fine.
any body got any brilliant ideas?

Do they light up? Or just not move?

they all light up just the odo n speedo dont move. all fuses are servicable so im thinking it the mechanical link? but where to start hunting for a fault i do not know and cant find anything on here.

are you in mph or km/h???

Usually if youve converted to mph OR youve put an inline derestricter in the signal wire THAT is what has failed. You could be unlucky like me and have a break in th eloom but, it is rare. Also check the wire on the sensor to make sure the plug is seated properly

I would be checking the plug on top of the gearbox - you'll find it under the intake pipework.

is that the plug directly under the air box with 2 wires? because that seems to be all intact and sitting home.

There's a couple of plugs there, I think? Can't recall at the moment. Someone with a better memory might confirm soon.

When we bought Ludolph the speedo would stick regularly. At the garage it was discovered the whole dashboard had been re-fitted badly on import, a bit warped, after the usual black sticker marking off the k from km/h was put on.
Once fitted properly, no problem, except that now the fuel tank level and oil temp indicator don't light up, they work just don't light up (a completely different problem from the re-fitting). Doesn't really matter as the fuel tank indicator is about as useful as a Civic in a drag race.
Fluffnik worked out that 1500rpm in 4th was about 30mph and 2000rpm in 5th was 60mph for the automatic gearbox, no idea about manual.

Heh I've been having this same problem over the past few weeks. Corrects itself untill I hit a bigger bump then its back to 0 again. Have just learn't the revs vs speed to compensate lol.

Yeah heard back from mitsi today they said generally its a loose plug on the gearbox under airbox, however mines screwed and apparently the first one they have ever seen thats faulty so they sent it away and it going to be around the $250 mark. ohwell its only money.

They arent 100% sure but its an issue with the cluster, apparently a common nissan fault so its been sent away to get repaiired where nissan sends theres.
