Yes, you have read that right ! Now you can have in-car video capability for under a tenner !

Below you can see a video that is currently on www.bridgetogantry.com - it's a lap filmed on the 22nd April of a Renault Clio 197 on the Ring, with an RSR Instructor. The whole thing as filmed on a keychain spy camera costing under a tenner !

No doubt people have often been put off buying something for filming in car, as most bullet cams are £100+, video cameras are dear and need to be mounted etc. This chap simply stuck the camera to his dash with some gaffer tape !

Now you have the ideal opportunity to have some fun and capture it on film ! Ok, the "under a tenner" does not include a micro SD card to record on, but at this price it has to be worth a punt. i am going to use a proper Mini DV cam corder for japfest, i made an excellent camera mount, to go on the head rest. it is really secure, no wobble at all and cost about £5 to make.

Try getting it from the ebay usa. I got mine from the states for just a smidge over $11aud. Which was cheaper than the australian seller by a few bucks.

My son has one of these. A bit more expensive but comes with brackets etc.
With an 8GB card he gets an hour plus filming (good quality as well). Mounting points have been allocated on the Scoob for Japfest:p

As Mike has suggested, putting cameras elsewhere on the car may not be a bad idea. As they're so cheap, you could even use them for diagnostic purposes - secure them on the underbody, in wheelarches, maybe even under the bonnet (if the heat's not too much for them).

Ok uploading a vid as we speak, Movie maker reduced it to 43mb, so took another vid around town, this time 5mins 22 secs filled the card, dunno maybe town had more colour, light, etc. Would upload the town one but my bit of sellotape came unstuck and it ended up a passenger view lol.

Hi guys,

Just to confirm, 720 x 480 is not HD, it's D1 resolution (http://tangentsoft.net/video/glossary.html) in NTSC (ie. American DVD resolution).

720P (the lowest form of HD) is 1280 x 720 resolution. The figure in HD specifies the number of vertical lines (ie. top to bottom).

Hmm, well driving Movie Maker is easy enough but I have been having a problem where whenever I publish the movie I get the image squeezed in half and a big green bar at the bottom. After much faffing around, I eventually Googled the problem and found it's a problem with the native MPEG4 decoder in Vista. To fix the problem you have to change the decoder settings in xvid so that it uses the 'compatibility renderer' so hopefully it will now work. Fingers crossed ...

The original file is pretty good but I did use Movie Maker to compress it from 209MB to 63MB before I uploaded it. And YouTube does say "This video is still being processed. Video quality may improve once processing is complete. " so it may improve.

Have had a few goes with camera and am mightily impressed.. gaffer tapes to bumpers front and rear perfectly.

The maximum recording time I have managed so far is 15 mins tho, but am not sure whether that was down to battery life (due to lack or recharge) or not.

I did attempt to film my journey into work via M1 today but it seems that I did not insert the sd card properly as I got to work to find that it had popped out :| Hopefully the card is on my driveway somewhere!

How long ar ethe vidi clips ppl have made with this? And what size SD cards have you been using..

I did a 12 minute film last night using a 512MB card. The film took 209MB on the card.

I have left it filming but it seems that mine stops at 18mins? (unless thats the battery giving up the ghost?) That filesize was about 400Mb in size.

Still a great lil gadget, really handy, especially for the price! Imagine how much a gadget, that small able to do stills, vidi and/or audio record, webcam plus USB drive would've cost say a year ago...

Perfect for front and rear bumper action at combe next week!

BTW tried it attached to rear bumper. Apart from starting to make you feel queeeezy after a while, wind noise is reduced drastically, as expected, and you can hear the zorst singing (well almost on my car)

You could try taping some foam over it, cotton wool won't stop much noise, but foam should do the trick.

Bear in mind though that little thing has been assembled using the cheapest parts possible, you're not going to get fantastic results out of it :)

Foam was my 1st option as i used this on an external mic when i had my bullet cam and it worked great /yes

But room is the restriction so opted for cotton wool.. Not tested mine yet, just charging battery and can't go far as waiting in for Parcel Force to collect a certain members Ganador Stainless Exhaust /Hmmm

Tested mine for first time today.
File size (uncompressed) was 0.97GB for just over 14 minutes recording.

Test car was the wifes Smart with the unit just lying on the cloth crash-pad. Sound quality was good but I think the keyring chain did cause some noise over bumpy roads. Conversation in the car was perfectly audible with road /engine noise just a subtle background track, (but rear engined car)

:idea2: Might the better option for front engine cars be to sight it away from the engine bulkhead - velcroed to the passenger headrest perhaps or to the rearview mirror to eliminate direct vibration? :idea2:

Has anyone discovered how long he battery lasts on a charge yet. And how can you tell its fully charged?

I have no software to edit file. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what program (Shareware/Freeware preferably) would edit/compress these AVI files? Somewhere I have an old copy of DVDshrink - would this do?

From what I have read the supplied usb cable is tripe so its probably worth buying a new cable from somewhere. Also I dont think you can charge and record at the same time

Took the memory card out of mine and the light flashed for about 2 hours then went constant.........but never went out to indicate it was fully charged.

The light never went out but it was fully charged I think. Did what Glen said pushed the on/off button light went steady.

I left it for about 2 hours. The battery is'nt that big so I dont think it will take much longer than that. Could be wrong.

I'm not too sure how it happened but after a reset with it plugged into the laptop, I suddenly got a found new hardware popup showing an ANYKA web cam. I was able to install the drivers from the CD I got with the camera.

Yeah it works pretty well too. I fyou hold down the camera/vidi button for a few seconds whilst connected to USB it starts up if drivers loaded like you say.

So whats longest vidi time anyhone has managed so far.. I got up to 18 mins but not sure if it stopped due to battery?

Thougt may be taken a bit of a risk at that price of it being the whole 32gb. But thought what the hell, if it comes and it's only got 16gb it's still a good price /yes

It shouldn't be a problem, the camera shows up as USB mass storage, just like a pen drive.

Just make sure that if you're formatting microSD cards for use with it to use FAT32.

With a MicroSD card fitted mine comes up immediately as a card reader via USB in Win 7 64bit. Never got it working as a WebCam though.
Managed to get a quick run to work on the 512Mb card I have. It's approximately 100MB/minute recording for reference.

The seller on Ebay isn't selling at the moment :(

There was a few neg feedbacks saying that the Cards are fakes and verified fake by using H2testw program.. I tested the card i have and it shows 31900+ Meg.

There are a few others on Ebay selling them also.. Not sure if there Pukka or not, you'll have to make ur own mind up by checking feedback etc..

Just search for 32gb micro sd.. Order them in low/high price..
