Kids and wife aren't here so I'm loving the free time for a bit of mucking round. I'm in the process of pulling tip changer apart to reverse the + and - and I thought I'd replace the broken card that stops you seeing down into the guts and dropping things like er.. kit kat bars......

Has someone got a picture of what its supposed to look like, I picked about 20 bits of mine out and I'll try and re-assemble. If I cut up a bit of plastic in roughly the same shape and put it in, I'm hoping that will do the trick.

Part number MR276626 - 03. It's just crumbling away in my hands.

I've got one which I keep meaning to fit. I should be able to post a pic up later after I dig it out.

This is from ASA, it appears its a complete unit, as ASA doesn't recognise your Part # and therefore doesn't generate a picture of the slide cover unit, the dealer is telling you straight... looks like you'll be checking wrecking yards for this bit.

Yep, that's all I could see on ASA - but you're so much more adept at it than I, so I thought you might have been able to find something more!

Ahhh thanks although that doesn't make it any easier hmm. Is the part one solid piece or is it two pieces, one with a hole in it that slides over another one..? It would be great if you could find a pic elnevio! /yes

I got one from Quinton, so you could always ask if he has another. Others have tried to purchase a new one before but been told it's not available separately.

I have one here, it's two pieces but only the main section has a part number on it.

MR 388801 LHD

MR 276628 RHD

MR 276626-03 is also stamped on there.

Yes, it's two pieces of plastic. The sideways movement of the shift lever is covered by one piece that slides in a pair of captive tracks in the other piece. It is something I reckon could be replicated with a couple of pieces of thin plastic, e.g. acetate.

Anyway, watch this space!

Great stuff! that looks make-able. Not sure how to replicate the slide rails..

I could try to get a second hand one but they don't seem to be made out of the worlds most durable plastic..

Perhaps you could make the larger piece out of two layers, and make the back most layer have tabs that overlap the hole a bit more. So the tabs can work kind of like rails and hold the smaller piece in... Sorry brain -> keyboard isn't working so well :)

I've got the upper and lower surround in front of me and the lower has a track that the card slides in. I've mocked up a strip of cardboard roughly 40mm wide with an oval hole. This slides perfectly up and down. f I can't figure out a "sideways" card then at least this solution covers most of the gap with the exception of a small gap at the base of the stick.

How much pulling apart do you need to do before you actually get to that bit that needs replacing?

Mines cracked as well :(

Not that much, just lever up the lower console bit (wood/carbon) that around the gear surround, lever the drink holder spring assembly out, pull the drink holder out and undo a screw, pull the box under the arm rest out, undo a couple of screws each side at the lower back of the arm rest. That whole part will lift off.

To get the front screws of the upper/lower surround off it looks like you're supposed to take the whole dash off. I would have drilled holes but forgot my drill bits, so I melted holes using my soldering iron above the front screws.

You'll also need to take the tiptronic lever apart but levering off the button, removing spring and spacer etc and using a long socket or ingenuity to undo the 12mm nut.

Doesn't take very long to do probably like 15 minutes.

I tried a couple of different things to try and use 2 cards but ended up using just the one. Its made from a 2L plastic milk bottle, cut out with scissors and a stanley knife. Sprayed it black and put it in. Works perfectly, covers the hole while the stick is in all positions, just has a wide hole at the base of the stick. The pictures don't really do it justice, it looks quite good.
