Tonight while driving home from work, my water temp gauge on the dash went to minimum. Turned the car off and back on - still dead.
I haven't touched any wiring and had a quick look in the engine bay but couldn't see anything loose.

Has anyone had this issue before?

earth the plug on the temp sender unit and see if the guage goes to complete hop that will tell you if its the guage or the sender unit

Where's the sender unit located? Near the thermostat?

ime not 100% sure but on most cars it is.

there are 2 temp sensors on the VR4. the single spade type connection at the back (smaller of the 2) drives the dash board gauge.

see pic below.

Is that near the boost and FPR solenoids? If so, then I did notice that wire looked a bit stuffed...

yes it will be,

the ecu temp sensor is the black one and directly behind it you can see the dash gauge one with the metal tab sticking up.

Thanks Dave and taupodrifta - got it sorted this morning. The wire had broken off the black clip so I reconnected it to the sender unit and all working again!

Rep coming your way ;)
