There is an earth wire that goes to the handbrake, just put the earth cables straight to earth and it will allow dvd on the move. :)

Its a standard safety feature of these units that is designed to sut off DVD playback when you are on the move. It activates and locks video playback as soon as you put the car in D or release the handbrake. The 'fix' is probably not right legally and if you get caught with DVD playback while on the move, you could be prosecuted.

No worries mate. Mine is actually hardwired to the ground so I can get playback on the move. 'But it was installed like that when I got it fitted'

It might be a purple wire - check your wiring manual. I would suggest putting in a switch so that it operates normally for a WOF, then flick it to bypass the safety measure.

Heers but where would the purple wire be coming from, the headunit?

The wire from your headunit that goes to the handbrake needs to be grounded.

That is the part number for the main MMCS video display unit, not a DVD player.

Below is the wire you should be looking for, taken from here (http://mmcs.mylivepage.com/wiki/516/425_Composite_video_input_%28VTR%29_unlocking).

Pretty sure it will fail a WOF if the DVD player can work while moving.

Merged both of your threads together.

I would take up the gearstick surround and see if you can trace the wire back to the headunit. A continuity meter would help you to pinpoint which wire it is.

on my pioneer, you cant just simply ground the wire. the head unit (somehow) detects that it is constantly ground and fails to work. to get round this, i had to use a solenoid switch. i followed a youtube guide and i had it working in no time.

Do a search on youtube for the pioneer avh-4200dvd bypass. And substitute the green handbrake cable for your cable.

You can also use a time-delayed relay for this, would be the best way to get around the handbrake ground detection.
