Hi, recently purchased a VR4 saloon and latest on my list of things to do is get the steering lights working, failed today. The bulbs seem intact, fuses are fine and I tried a different relay which appeared to belong to the steering lights. Still no luck.

Any ideas?

:-| On the facelift VR4, the outer fog type light in the fog cluster. The inner ones are foglights, the outer ones steering lights which come on with the indicator when the lights are on. The idea is to help see round the corner you're about to turn.

check the relay in the engine bay fuse box, its one of the black 25mmx10mm ones

Yeah I found that and swapped it with the air con relay. No luck.

Have you checked the interior fuse box?

Have you checked the interior fuse box?

No, just the one in the engine bay. Didn't know there'd be one in the interior box. I'm not very mechanically gifted so any help is appreciated.

Some peeps have changed these to come on with fog lights instead. I think.
Just a thought:vogel:

Yeah, considered wiring up differently, would rather just get them working for now though.

They do not come on with the fog lights or main beam.

There's one behind the coin holder thingy near the bonnet release. It's mainly for interior things, but there are a few weird ones.

Its very easy to get to the other fuse box. Pop round & I will check for you if you want. If not a job for next weekend to dismantle & compare with mine me thinks!

well you learn something new every day steering light, only on a facelift. never heard of those type of light on any other car.
How odd.
i see they never caught on.

but tilting headlights are making a comeback from the Citroen DS days

I think Merc do them now but they are far brighter (55w I think). Other than driving in the countryside at very low speeds you can't even notice they are on on the Mitsi's. Better off taping a glow worm to the front splitter!

Ok, problem solved. There was a fuse missing entirely.

Don't you just hate having things not working properly on the car, no matter how pointless they are.

Missing from the interior, or engine bay?

It was one of the interior ones. Don't know where exactly as he sorted it after I had a look (big help I turned out to be)!

wow, glad it was a simple fix. I suspect a few importers disable them for the first MOT.

Really? Which one was it then? Maybe I should leave it all to Mark in future then :)
