Hi guys.

Met a nice Polish bloke selling ice creams, and he was admiring my car, and then told me he has a Legnum, too, but he said his is a 3.0l, twin turbo VR-4 on an S plate, or 1999 model.

Was there ever such a model? I told him I'd never heard of a 3.0 litre Legnum. but we chatted for a while, then... pretty soon, he said "excuse me, I need to call my wife", which made me think I'd caught him out?

... also, his car has many mods, and he has "400 hp".

I think he's talking porkies myself.....

I am 99% sure that all vr4s 1996 onwards are 2.5. The 3000 gt was a 3ltr twin turbo + some were badged as vr4s but not galants. Full of the brown stuff!

Yeah the 3000GT wqas branded in the USDM as the VR4 GTO... and was manufactured up until 99. Of course some of these VR4's found their way to Europe.

I was wondering if he had confused that, and it could be a 99 model, but then Martin did say: "he has a Legnum, too, but he said his is a 3.0l"

B**cks!
You should tell him "dream on, dream on, ice-cream boy..." :P
Shame on him! Pretty sure he made whole story up. Mixed up 3kGT VR4 with Legnums.
I've never heard of such hybrid on Polish forum.
What's more, we've had few arguments with few 3kGT VR4 owners who used to easy claim stupid power in range 400+ bhp, but when you ask for mods details or dyno printout they just shut up.

Yep, they are all the same. Did you know that my VR4 is pushing 600 bhp. I have added the club vr4 sticker (which turned up in my pack yesterday :) ) so that adds 30 bhp, I have cleaned it approx 20x times - adding 10 bhp per clean, & sod NOS, ive put a helium filled balloon in my boot which i recon must add approx the remaining 100 bhp. Anyone got any suggestions on what else I could fit to help my performance. I was toying with the idea of a nodding dog or a v6 badge?!?!

The American market Galant, introduced on July 7, 1998, graduated to the US Environmental Protection Agency‎ (http://www.clubvr4.com/wiki/US_Environmental_Protection_Agency)'s mid-size (http://www.clubvr4.com/wiki/Mid-size) class. The front suspension switched from double-wishbones to struts, though the rear was upgraded with a stabilizer bar standard on all but the base DE model. ES, LS and GTZ models were offered with a 195 hp (145 kW) V6 engine (http://www.clubvr4.com/wiki/V6_engine), the 6G72 (http://www.clubvr4.com/wiki/Mitsubishi_6G7_engine) 3.0 L, mated to a standard 4-speed conventional auto. Another difference from Asian and European models was lack of ABS (http://www.clubvr4.com/wiki/Anti-lock_braking_system), which was only installed on 3.0 L model. - Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Galant)

There was a 3.0 litre Galant, as mentioned above, but never a 3.0 Legnum VR4. It would have to be a custom build, and a pricey one at that.

Yep there are indeed 3.0 galants in US. Some have put in the 3.0 TT from gto's or conversions. Never seen a Legnum though. Don't even think they got estate/legnums. Considered a 6G72 when I did mine, but not sure if it would have fitted

I doubt its a US one, he said its a Legnum, Jap import, and he collected it from the docks.

Aye, not doubting that for a moment! Just off on a slight tangent really as to if anyone has put that lump into a JDM car.

theres a 6G72 3.0L FTO kicking round, so it would fit quite nicely in a VR4.

Indeed there is, i've had it on the dyno- non turbo though.

Its out of something really obscure- a backwards 6g72.

Like the diamante 6g72 2.5.

Cheers,

Ben.

6g73 was 2.5
6g72 is 3.0
6g74 is 3.5

..6G75 is 3.8L

im not sure why people here are so quick to jump on the hate wagon?? first of all he was keen to have a small chat about you POS wagon... it also seemed like he needed to be pointed into the direction of our/this forum.. 400hp is not much of an ask from 3000cc of mixture when boost is applied.. the 3L will fit and run in a 8G vehicle. but why stop at 3L lets see the 3.8L done with a huge snail on the side..

now lets pretend you used your initiative, and managed to get him here on the forum.. how many of you are going too look like right dicks to him?? not a good out come IMO! but thats just a KIWI's point of view..

It's more than 1 yr old thread. Let me clarify with you.
If you were reading carefully you would notice, that statement was done about Polish bloke and claimed Legnum with 3.0 litre engine. Problem is that there is very small community of Polish owners of VR4, either here in UK or in Poland. Whatsmore, every single converted vr4 in PL is very known vehicle in Mitsubishi community in Poland (because you can register only LHD converted vehicles, and this requires hell a lot of work). I can claim that I know most of them, even recently helping with conversions of 3 more. Overall, form dozen+ registered vehicles in Poland, there is only one 8g being done for a big power, and two 7g (E88A) being still under construction to suit 6G72TT.
Talking of UK Polish owners we are even more close community, very-one knowing each other.

So, statement like this "Polish bloke" + "Legnum 3.0 pushing 400+ bhp"... sorry, bo**ks Actually the same story like other German bloke pushing hundreds od ponnies from stock TD03s...:unbeleeva
Anyway, no-one was saying that this couldn't be done.

Not sure anyone has jumped on a hate wagon??

The thread is well over a year old - not sure what made The Batty Boy bump the thread today...... I think the feeling is that someone who didn't appear to understand the car they were driving was very unlikely to have a 3.0 lump in it. It may be possible that he has got that, but without any kind of evidence apart from a sketchy conversation whilst selling ice creams, it seems a tad unlikely!

As an aside, mentioned earlier was why not put a 6G75 in an 8G. They've done it now stateside! seems the 6G74 and 6G75 are going in quite a bit now.

viniu88

6g75 => 3.5 L V6 with 153 kW (215 hp)

aint that much but then if in gal case half of those 280bhp coming from turbo dont see why not to make 430bhp from 6g75 - simple as that

and if 3.0 fits in diamante then 3.5 will fit aswell
