Based on this information

http://www.bp.co.nz/about/pricing/weekly.html

http://www.bp.co.nz/about/pricing/index.html

If we base our calculation at $37.44 a barrel and 49.88 cents refined

Crude Oil = 37 cents (Variable)
Refining charge = 12 cents (Flat)
Shipping = 5 cents (Flat)
Taxes = 60 cents (Flat)
Margin (12%) = 15 sents (Variable)

= Total cost = $1.29 a litre

And now at $100.oo per barrell (likely in 3-5 years)

Crude Oil = 99 cents (Variable)
Refining charge = 13 cents (Flat)
Shipping = 6 cents (Flat)
Taxes = 60 cents (Flat)
Margin = 20 sents (Variable)

= Total cost = about $2.00 a litre

And @ $200.oo per barrel (likely in 10-12 years)

= Total cost = about $3.00 a litre

Therefore don't let the car salesmen convince you buy a more economical car based on rising Oil price as it is only part of the cost.

PS: UK peeps can do their own calculations if they know the costs of taxes

But just how accurate are these oil index prices? Here in the Uk fuel prices have been farly stable at around .80p-82p/litre despite record oil prices. I was asking about this the other day and was told that these prices are in the russian oil fields, not in The Gulf or North sea. And is more about politics between the Russian Govt and multi-millionaire Russian buisnessmen who actually own these oilfields. So as to what we can expect for the future who really knows at this time?

As the cost of oil is only about 10% of our pump price I doubt it will make too much difference. Just depends if the govenrment want to screw us anymore!

I have just paid $1.87 litre, while oil price is nearing $80 a gallon, which means my calculation is pretty much accurate.

We also appear to be on track to my prediction of $100 per barrel in 3-5 years, if not a little sooner than expected.

Rich,

Have you thought about a move to Dubai, Bahrain, Muscat or even Riyadh? :evilgrin:

Venezuela is cheaper I think. But may end up paying the difference in maintenance costs for the VR-4.

I would expect it to break $100 a barrel by the end of this year.

But it always sounds as if the whole middle east is going to explode, why can't they just get along and pump oil :)

why can't they just get along and pump oil :)That is why the US stepped in to show them how to pump oil. Pity a few non-oil workers are in the way. :inquisiti
