View Full Version : car shudder at low revs

when I test drove my 25ST today I noticed in 4th gear at about 1500-1750 rpms the whole car shuddered, like I was driving over a rumble strip. The dealer tested it and found the same thing, he reckoned the rear diff needed and oil change, so before I picked it up it was sent off for the change.

After I picked it up this evening it seemed to be ok on the way home, however I went out for a jaunt to KFC at 9:30 tonight and it was doing it again. I am gonna take it to a transmission specialist in the morning to get an opinion before I go back to the dealer, but does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Its under warranty (to the full worth of the vehicle too, not just a $2000 limit like on some policies) so if its a biggy then it can be sorted.

Thanks

My only thoughts are that I would have left well alone! Surely there are plenty to choose from in NZ so you could have held out for a better one? Buying one with a known problem is asking for trouble. Sure it may have a warranty but did you buy a car to live in the dealers workshop?

I would simply take it back and get another.

Just my opinion.

I would be tempted to find another as well!

However, I think people have had this problem before. Something to do with the mechanical lock-up rings a bell. Do a search and see what you find.

could it be the engine mount....just like the V6-24v? :|

Take it backand say you want it fixed, it may be something relatively simple(uj's perhaps?), give them a reasonable time if you really want the car. If they cant or you dont, get yr money and go elsewhere as the others say.

This sounds like a posibility...

I would take it back and ask for a refund.

Look around for somewhere else to buy from.

there were no others in Tauranga, the nearest was Hamilton, and all the ones there seem to have mileage 80k plus, this ones only 55000kms.

Marshall Tranmissions reckoned the torque converter, I told the dealer and he said he would get there preferred mechanics to have a look cos they don't like marshalls.

Anyway, they have the car now so hopefully I will have verdict tomorrow. Hopefully not to big.

But then I didn't exactly buy it knowing the problem was there, he reckoned the rear diff, I don't know jack **** about such things so I believed him, so when the oil change was done I thought ok, it was ok on the way home as well.

Its not that bad, just appears to be under load at those low revs. Anyway, will see what they say tomorrow.

I still think if you are not careful your new purchase will spend more time on the ramps than the road. That surely wont be good for business.

Seems to me the jump from VR4 to V6 happened instantaneously and you went and parted with your cash very shortly after. These are complicated cars and parts are certainly not cheap, I would still consider a refund!

Yoiu said in you last post it was not too bad, but in your first post you said it was like driving over a rumple strip.............from experience in my car I wouldn't like this between the revs you mention!

If you dont go for a refund I would certainly push for a price reduction, although now you have paid you may find that hard.

i had the same problem when i got mine.. and it turned out to be the torque converter... evidently if the cars sit around for a long time the lube all sits in one place and when you get it up and running again the pump doesnt pump it around properly... i had the trannie flushed and replaced and i havent had the problem back... if this doesnt cure it dont touch it cause its stuffed... ha ha

Sorted! they just flushed the auto box and voila, problem gone. Sweet as a nut too, and drives like I expect a 55000km car to. Now I need to have it lowered, will check out a local race parts store this weekend see what he has fitted to his legnum/show car.

piccies in the um, some forum, how about new members thread?
