Just to further something I'm working on. I can think of:

M34 and M35 Stagea
3 shapes of Legacy
Toyota Mark II Blit
Toyota Crown Wagon
Toyota Caldina
EVO 9 (why not)
Passat W8 and R36

Maybe some models of Volvo and Audi?

Basically I'm thinking of wagons with a 2.6m or greater wheelbase, over 170kw and less than 1.8 tons.

If you can live with 2WD there are quite a few Mercedes/AMG, BMW/ALPINA and even Rover/MG options.

RS4 and RS6 is out of VR-4 league, sorry...:)

The current RS6 tips the scales at 2,025 kg, so that's outside Brad's weight specs.

The current RS4 Avant is 1710kg though, and puts out 309kw, according to Wikipedia.

Steve, there is no such thing as an A8 avant! Even an A6 Avant will be too heavy though I think.

Good ideas so far guys, keep them coming :) RWD or 4WD is ok.

Another out there option:

Chrysler 300c 5.7 hemi V8 touring
power - 340 bhp
weight - 1680 kg
0 to 60 - 6.3 secs

or Dodge Magnum version of basically the same car has 6.1 Hemi V8 and does 0 to 60 in just over 5 secs..

(the v6 touring is even 4wd but only has 170 bhp)

Those Magnum's look lovely and sound even better with the Hemi :)

Gaargh! I was reading about the A8 Avant in AutoCar magazine....photos and everything. And it's a prototype.

A6 Avant is 1830Kgs absolutely maxed out. So it still counts, and the 3.0TDI meets your criteria :)

Please feel free to disregard, though - I appreciate you're after "sportier" technology than these tractor derivatives.

That's what I replaced my Legnum (and B10 V8 saloon) with.

It can, quite definitely, get a wiggle on... /Steeringw

Is that a 'wiggle on' from the rear end perhaps? hehe

Steve, the petrol ones may be under 1.8T then. 1.8T is already right at the very max of what I would consider similar, remember a Legnum is 1530 or 1570kg depending on the box.

It's mainly down to your choice of seats and accessories, apparently the full leather heated electric seat option adds more than 120Kgs!!!

Is diesel an option? Not sure how it stacks up in NZ, but with fuel prices in the UK, you've got to be pretty comitted to want petrol these days.

bradc
21-06-2010, 08:43 PM
Some horrible french cars and german cars are sold with diesel. It is a bit cheaper than petrol to run but overall you'd only use diesel here if you didn't like the other options we have. Remember over here that we have lots of 3 to 6 litre saloon's readily available cheaply and anyone that enjoys cars will have at least 200hp :)

NZ sounds like such a col place to live...wonder if i can get a visa!

Turbo_Steve

Agree with that sentiment Alan. Nice place, nice prices. The poisonous things are a touch less appealing, though :)

Do you not get the spiders there, Brad? Or the scorpions? Snakes?

For me it would be the Caldina GTFour ST246.. 3SGTE

Saw 1 in te flesh about 5 years ago at a meet in the city.. It took my eye and liked the look of it /yes With 4WD and 256bhp it is directly comparable with the Leggy.. Although it is a 4 pot, not a 6 so wouldn't be such a nice cruiser.. Smaller load space also ..

Or drop in the 3SGT(503E) lump :evil2:

Nope. :)

The B10 is pretty imperturbable, you have to be really brutal to make the tail step out.

Check the vids in the Scottish Meet (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49409&page=6) thread...

Wodj, yep I have thought of the caldina's. They are indeed a bit smaller but lighter too

I've always liked the Saab estates, but I think in terms of "bang for buck" they're somewhat over-priced.

quite easy to turn the turbo boost up on the 2.3t apparently...

Fair enough on the Snakes and Scorpions - I've no idea!
I was under the impression you guys had 2 or 3 poisonous spiders, though - some conversation on here about Redbacks? Katipos (is that right?)

Are they like the only poisonous snake we have in the UK - you never see or even hear of them?

Er....and sorry for the Thread HiJack: I'm really quite interested.
If you wish, I'll happily split the thread.

Pretty much - chances are that you'd never see one let alone be bitten by one.

They're FWD though (apart from the brand new 9-3X) and I think Brad is looking for Rear or AWD only. Otherwise yes, I'd say a 9-5 Aero Wagon is very similiarly matched to a Legnum both in performance and bang for buck.

I'll consider them if they have a heap of power. Do you have a link to a page with the specs of the fastest ones?

All the Saabs I have driven have the most horrible gearbox. The shifter feels like something out of an old Bedford Blitz even on a car that's just a couple of years old. Hmm did I get third or fifth this time...

BMW 530 IX Touring has a N/A 258bhp inline 6 and 4WD

OR how about a Greenwood Vette Sportwagon

OK... silly suggestion

LHD only?

The ALPINA B10 Allrad based on it certainly was.
