my car failed the test on emissions

low idle: co 0.68% above 0.50% fail
880rpm hc 205ppm above 0ppm fail

lambda: 1.01 between 0.97 and 1.03 pass

high idle: 2890rpm co 0.62% above .30% fail
hc63ppm above 200ppm fail
there was new flexies put on before test but one weld was leaking on later inspection.which was welded up.
now a mate of mine has said that the weld wasnt the prob that its the lambda sensor is he correct,as i assumed because lambda reading was within tolerance that it was fine?

thanks in advance

was the car fully warmed up,

ie, cat usually needs to be roasting hot on a vr4 for it to work at its best

mine nearly faild the mot the other week because of the emissions. but the tester said, that he done something to bring it back down within the limits. not sure what he done. the car was sort of warm by the time i took it to the testing place. he could have just waited a bit for the cat to warm up and done a re-test.

That usually mean thrashing the absolute nuts off the car to get the emissions down......... for me it's a traumatic experience.........

The thing is, the car didn't leave the garage. As I could see it from where I was sat. So god knows what he done to get it down.

he probably pulled a vacuum pipe off to let more air in

car was after a good 30min drive and was put on tester fairly soon after arrival.
took it to friend today and was the same after a good drive ,he pulled a vacum off the manifold and blocked it and it came down to proper levels after a few min,car feels dead with this done so id like to fix the prob rather than ignore it.
just checked fault codes and alls clear
