Not bothering with the update - it offers nothing for my puny [Jailbroken] iPhone 3G as most of the features apply to the 3GS & later.
I'm looking forward to using it on my iPhone 4 tho'/woot . Only another 47hrs to wait.

i've just found a list of the "Over 100 New Features" that the new OS 4 has to offer. click "HERE (http://www.iphonehacks.com/2010/06/ios-4-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch-over-100-new-features-including-multitasking-folders-better-mail-app-lots-more.html)" to view them. they do look impressive and I wouldn’t mind updating to the new OS. But I will wait for a stable “JB” (if you know what I mean).

Have iOS 4 sat here waiting but won't be losing my JB for the sake of having it on the first day. I can't quite make it to the Apple shop and back to Heathrow before my next flight on Saturday otherwise I would have been taking an unlocked one home with me.

Sad how so few of the features are available for iPhone 3g - esp customizable screens. Looking thru the list it offers little (if anything more) than my 3.1.2 jailbreak. I suppose the 3g just doesn't have the oomph to run the apple features.
Why the secrecy with Jailbreak - it's not illegal ??

this is a grey area. some say it is and some say it's not. in apple's eyes it is. because your altering the phones software to allow you to do things that apple didnt intend you the user to do. im sure it's in the small print somewhere. and like most people, i've not even opened the licence agreement on the phone. no long read it.
and did you all know, that there is a moisture indicator hidden under the charging point and in the earphone socket. and if either one of these gets any water on them, they will turn red. and apple are well within their right to refuse you the right to get the phone fixed if something has gone wrong with it. as it's has been exposed to water. all because it states it in the licence agreement. there was a thing on watchdog a few weeks ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFN6nIxAQe8

iOS4 is installed, jailbroken and unlocked on my 3GS now. Not worth the hassle so far but had to be tried.

I might give it a go then. As I hate the tethered types of JB. I got my 3gs last Xmas. So it's not that old. I first used the "snow" tethered JB when I first got the phone. But I now use "spirit" (not you pete) untethered version. A lot easierand better.
Which site do you use to get the JB's from?

I like OS4, alot of the features are quite usefull in an enterprise environment like the mutiple exchange accounts etc and the ability to "push" sub folders from exchange servers etc etc
Not going to bother with the 4G though as O2 have really screwed up the contracts imho

I'm with O2 on my old skool 3G, I'll be with Vodafone on the 4G for that reason.

Sky have an iPhone app - Mobile TV. It's not yet been approved by Apple so it's not available on iOS4. When it is I'll upgrade & JB.
Haha, excellent. Is it as sexeh as it is made out to be? :D
I will hopefully get mine in July when the 2nd batch gets released.

It's mental. They were queueing round the O2 shop, they only had 40 in stock & must of easy been 100+ outside.
I bought mine on Sat from Phones4U - they were the only people taking preorders. Just walked in, signed a couple of bit of paper & walked out 15 mins later.

One of my mates is queued up in line and is 25th. The store has 50 phones available and he is about 15 minutes from getting his. I am determined to wait until July now. I have to think about this with real maths rather than Man-maths! LOL

Unfrtunately I have an issue that because I'm in Brunei I can't activate even though I have the genuine SIM in it. How stupid is that!

got to work thismorning to be met with aprox 40+ people all waiting! some since 6am! apparantly o2 had ppl waiting from 4am!
we only got 30 in stock and sold out within a few hours! was manic but funnn!
the design of the iphone isnt ergonmic to say the least and is much more uncomfortable in the hand to the rounded 3g but the features are pretty epic. camera and video recorder are fantastic ans the screeen is truely amazing quality. and its fasssssssssssssst! huge difference in performance to the 3g
the only let down is the typical over prcing apple love so much!! (and no staff deal due to low stocks!)

Just had a play on my mates 4... and its epic! It is super fast and smooth compared to my 1930's old-skool 3G, lol. The display is simply stunning. Superb feel of the phone, and yes, its not as ergonomic but it still fits in your hand perfectly comfortably.

Hmm, well I was going to stick my 3GS until whatever iPhone gets released next year but I impulse bought an iPhone 4 yesterday. For me, it was pretty pointless, the only gain over the 3GS is the simply phenomenal retina display and the speed bump (it's lightning, although the 3GS is no slouch) and on the downside it is horrible to hold and when I go back to the 3GS it just feels like mobile perfection. It's not any better looking than the 3GS either in the flesh really, oh well, here's to awaiting the new jailbreak.

i won't be getting the new iphone 4 for a good 18 months. coz that's when my contract is up. im not too bothered. as im sure there will be another even better iphone 4 out by then. so im sticking to me 3gs.
and i've just found a nice theme for it. but there is a little bit of work involved to get it working :( but it's worth it

anyone using ios4 on a 3G here?
i have it on my 3GS and it fine, however Jess has it on her 3G and she has on many occations nearly thrown it out the car window! it just runs sooo god damn slow! to send a text message for example it can take up to a minute just to open the text message screen! when it rings the screen is blank just to name a couple of faults.
i have been reading up on it and tried everything i can find which fixes it for a couple of hours, but then its back to a slug again. there is a way to down grade it but im not game enough to try it!
it is so bad that people on the USA are looking into a law suit against apple! apparantly they knew about this but didnt tell poeople not to upgrade the 3G to it.
Now i see 4.1 is out and it is supposed to mostly fix the speend issues. I have read mixed reviews on the net so was just wondering what you guys have experienced

There is an app out there that can speed the 3G iPhone up to the same as 3GS. Turbospeed I think it's called. But I could be wrong. But in order to run the app, the phone needs to JB. I've also heard that running this type of app, shortens the life of the iPhone.

Yep I'm running the 3G. Have always been really pleased with it until IOS4. Rendered it almost useless. Time for I4 methinks, but I don't like the way you feel forced into it. Then TBF, updated with the latest version couple of days ago and although not quite back to its former self, it is heaps better. No crashing or freezing so far..................

4.0.1 on the 3G was pitifully slow.
4.1, however, is amazingly fast again.
However - no JailBreak yet for 4.1, but the only thing I had through the JB that I used was a MegaDrive emulator, anyway, so I've not really lost anything, but have gained a LOT of speed. Possibly even faster than 3.1.3 was.
