Apart from Tesco's 99RON generally being one of the better fuels on the market, you mean?

Esso don't do a 99Ron fuel, which renders them pretty useless for a VR4 owner.

you raise a good point i always get 220 to the light (give or take a couple) have done nothing different and am currently on 235 and the light has not came on yet . driving style and even driving to places is even the same .

The only other thing (i was going to put a post up later actualy) is kinkyafro removed my ecu at the RR day to dyno his then replaced it again . i know the gear box and idle would have to relearn because of this but would it make that much difference ?

the way my needle is at the moment i will get about another 15 miles before the light comes on that would be a gain of 30 miles to the tank ;)

could it be the tescos petrol of the ecu relearning or or or?

i'm with steve on this one. i frequently use tesco's 99 fuel & rate it the same as shell's stuff. esso is ok in an emergency but i definitely wouldn't use it all the time, same goes for bp too

Never had any problems with Momentum99, massive difference to Esso97! plus how the hell do Esso get away with a similar priced 97 against 99 or V-Power

Often debated this one! TBH used the Tesco 99 couple of times and I do feel the car doesn't run quite so well, notably so on a recent run to Huddersfield and back. I never used to think much about different brands making a difference, but with this car I have found it so. For me the V-power (no pun intended!) closely followed by Total excellium seem to work best in mine

I have always felt that Tesco 99 was better than v-power! Given the choice I would buy Tesco 99. Perhaps the formula has been changed recently?

I personally rate tesco but it is far closer than any others to my house, & cheaper. Some of the pumps are labeled as momentum & others just as 99 so I assume its just a re-brand & they have ran out of stickers!

There may have been a change in formula, tesco 99 has a bio ethanol added to the petrol to increase the ron rating........ therefore you would get a few miles less volume for volume against V-power for example........ However the cost of crude oil has dropped so Tesco may be able to afford to improve it's fuel...........

I only use V-power now, I used to use Tesco 99 and I found no difference in performance.......... I would happily use Tesco's 99 again it's simply down to the fact that there's a shell garage 2 miles from home now....... I have fortunately never run out or had to use "emergency" fuel..........

The lady in my local Tesco petrol stn told me that all tesco fuel comes from Texaco. My leggie VR4 doesn't like momentum. I use a fuel pellet called system 4 and general 97 rom fuel. Works for me. Enthuiastic driving sees about 250 miles to a tank full

In the past most if not all fuel in Cornwall comes in from either Milford Haven (South Wales) or Fawley (Southampton) to a jetty located between Falmouth and Penryn. Just back from the road there is a tank farm. From there it is distributed to all outlets. This depot is I think run by Texaco but supplies all.

The recent trend for specialised fuels has seen other storage/distribution centres open up such as Plymouth. The supplier for Tesco's Momentum 99 fuel is Greenergy.
From their website:
We operate from an extensive network of terminals to manufacture, store and supply fuel.

We have invested in our own facilities in Teesside and Plymouth and have created a Greenergy “terminal within a terminal” at the Vopak terminal on the Thames estuary. Elsewhere we use the facilities of other terminal operators.

With the addition to our network of Plymouth in 2009, Teesside in 2010 and Cardiff in 2011, we have now completed our expansion into key British coastal supply locations. We are now looking to establish a position at further inland locations, and to this end are working on the development of a rail distribution network with Teesside as the hub
Find out more at www.greenergy.com

Should you use Momentum 99 ? This report may help you decide on what you put in your tank. http://www.biofuelwatch.org.uk/docs/greenergy_factsheet_2.pdf
Personally I'll be using V-Power whenever I can get it but also topping up on Tesco if needed now and again

What Wodj is neglecting to mention is that he has a manual gearbox - not an auto, which makes a huge difference :) Especially to the urban driving.

I've notice my TC falring more and more lately, and a corresponding drop in fuel economy. It's about 280miles to the tank now, even if you drive it "like a fairy". Analysis has shown that the engine is fine - so I'm looking for something else.

I didn't neglect anything Steve..

What Steves neglecting to say is that if mine were an Auto then i wouldn't be posting in this thread :D

But i have achieved greater things from my Auto /yes

I had 395miles from 1 tank of fuel :unbeleeva

I noticed today the nozzle for Shell V-Power had 99 RON written on it.

Is this a recent addition? Or have I been comatose when I have filled up previously?

However, I did only get back from N. Ireland last month, and there is no V-Power there.

I know this is an old post now, i have been using tesco 99 all of this year and i must say imo that im very happy with it. my car runs alot smoother, feels a bit more pokey.
ive been working for mitsubishi again (not the rally team) but mitsubishi uk, doing shows up & down the country using my own galant to get to events, it seemed like it took maybe 5 tank fulls before i noticed any difference maybe thats how long it took for the ecu to sort its self out. at the moment i am getting 412 miles on average out of a full tank & i dont drive like an 80 year old out on a sunday jolly! i know you vr4 boys will struggle to get that sort of figure, but i suppose thats the benefit of a N/A v6 engine.
i will always use tesco99 now

Personaly i only use tesco 99 or v-power,
just lately i find my V6 ressponds much better to v-power than tesco and so when possible i choose v-power over tesco, but i will still use tescos..... when i have collected three fuel discount resciepts after my weekly shop so i get 15p a litre off:) lol

I tend to prefer V-Power.

It should give better fuel consumption than Tesco 99, in theory, as the latter uses 5% ethanol to increase its octane rating.

different cars seem to prefer different brands of fuel, in my case its shell although i am currently trialling murco out of convenience and price. she is with me on tesco though. she doesnt like tesco branded stuff any more than i do and i know that their branded stuff is supplied by 3rd parties as they are a retailer, not a producer. it is up to each individual to trial and see which fuel they prefer though

well i had a strange one today on the petrol front, my engine light has been on for months i have had it turned off a few times, but keeps coming back on.
i know its my rear lambda sensor it has been replaced with an aftermarket one by the previous owner. talking of fuel like i said i use tescos 99 all the time, but today i needed juice so stopped at a bp station, not having much money on me i put £25 of bp std petrol. after maybe 8 miles from the garage my engine light went out and stayed out the whole 45 mile journey home. i have parked up for the night so will have to see what happens tomorrow, is it a case of crap lambda sensor, crap fuel liking each other???
