Must say that I thoroughly enjoyed Snatch - I saw it in Hong Kong about 10 years ago when I was travelling...

Don't know that much about British film making to form an opinion on which is the best British though... I'm sure there are others I'd choose over that though (if I knew that they were British).

edit: Bridget Jones' diary was quite good too... for some reason Renee just looked so tappable in that movie.

Looks good mate! But read the very top dude and it is only a list I have found just to let members know what other British films are out there. Not saying I agree with them all.

Some of them I have never heard of. Plus there are just so many great films out there in different catagories like funny, horror, gangster Etc.

I do agree with you bud that Lock stock & Snatch are just brilliant just because of the way they are put together with many stories within one film all coming together at the end as one.

Terry Gilliam film - very Big Brother-esqe (and not in the C4 pretend celeb series sense either). Some cracking performances from Jonathan Pryce, Robert De Niro, Michael Palin and Bob Hoskins, amongst others. Bit of a cult film, and not very Hollywood.

I think Lock Stock somes up modern British culture very well, Snatch is also a good film....... I am supprised that no-one has mentioned Harry Brown..... I personally thought that was an excellent film, again very reflective of todays society........... what about Casino Royale? Human Traffic?

Italian job is a classic and can not be denied, Get Carter has echoed through other films and TV series.........

Can anyone really choose one film? There are too many to choose from!!!!!

"Lock stock and two smoking barrels" (although I've found more entertaining telly serries of 4 episodes)
"Snatch"

Yes both are my cuppa tea. Like them very much.
But there also other good movies:
- "Bank Job" by Robert Donaldson 2008
- "The Business" by Nick Love 2005
- "Hot Fuzz" by Egdar Wright 2007
- "Layer Cake" by Matthew Vaughn 2004
- "Life of Brian" by Monty Python
- "Human Traffic" 1999
- "Mean Machine" 2001
- "Trainspotting" by Danny Boyle 1996
- "Shallow Grave" as above 1994
- "Millions" as above 2004
That's from last years...

BTW, d'you know that "Snatch" and "Mean Machine" were so high ranked in Hollywood that they did their sequels which were obviously total crap /lol IMHO, Hollywood should pay massive compensation to UK for this.

Since when is "The Commitments" a British film?

"Brassed Off" was decent.

No mention of "In the name of the father" in that big list or "Bronson"

i managed 32 from that list. anyone notice a theme in the years that they were made??? only a few of them were made in the last 20 years. ok...there are some good old films in there like damn busters and the cruel sea. but be honest lads, who has ever seen or even heard of the no1. The Third Man and the no2. Brief Encounter??? im old and i do like the odd old film from time to time, but i've never heard of these films. so who in the right mind has made them the top two?

there are so many films that could be listed.
1. all of the james bond 007 films
2. most of the carry on films
3. the harry potter films

also. they have forgotten about the big hollywood titles that were made in this country. for example :- The Hunt For Red October, Braveheart, Batman, Gladiator, Mission Impossible, Saving Private Ryan, Tomb Raider 2, Notting Hill, Patriot Games, Superman, First Knight, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves to name a few.
