Does anyone know what a Mitsubishi Evo 4 is like? E.g are they known for anything going, gearbox, heads, or anything to look out for.

Thanks

bottom ends seem a little soft compared to 5or 6.but imo any evo is a good choice

Nothing especially, but If you can stretch to a 5 do it, far nicer to drive + look better. Don't think there is much difference in price these days either

The 5 gives you the big wheel arches, Brembo's and better Recaro's. It would be hard to go for a 4 I think unless you really couldn't find a 5 in your price bracket.

As above, they're more susceptible to crank walk than later Evos, though a lot less than earlier Evos.

Generally it doesn't seem to be a problem until someone slaps in a massively heavy clutch spring.

As has been said, they do suffer with crank walk but a lot of IVs that you see for sale have an engine fitted from a later model Evo now anyway. Personally, if you can stretch to it, I would go for a V over a IV but they are more expensive for cars with comparable condition and mileage. Oh, and watch out for rust, cars that have been in the UK for a good few years are now starting to suffer (unless they only get driven in the dry, and kept garaged). Have a good look underneath as often older Evos will look great on top but be starting to rust badly underneath.
