Man, these diff's just don't like us. Had mine do the same (minus the casing) but pinion and crown were munched. Adam (the man, above) replaced it for me during a meet. Needless to say, I was stoked (for the help), and gutted that my poor car made such horrible clunking noises!

when yours blew did you loose all drive in the car or could you still drive it? reason I ask when mine went I lost all drive and was thinking I still should have had some from the front wheels.

my first one i could still drive but made hell of a noise,

second one, locked up , and had to have the car taken home on a flat deck

depends how badly it brakes, if it can be moved,
basically if the rear diff locks up, it cant be moved under its own power,

It didnt lock up I was able to line tow the car home which was only about 25 meters its just when it first happened I didnt know what it was and tried to dirve forward to pull over and had nothing engine just revd so I had to roll back down the hill and round corner to wait for tow. The reason I ask is I have read a couple threads where people have still been able to drive after diff blown and was fearful maybe something else has gone aswell ie gearbox transfer case

Yep, mine could still be driven under its own power.

ok well that sucks as I couldnt drive it all. So will have to get a new diff and see what happens from there. Lets hope I havent done the gearbox aswell. If I have will have to have a serious look into why I have blown gearbox and diff at the same time

Good choice. LSD? If not, ask around rally shops and see if any of them have standard evo diffs that they no longer want. I picked up a brand new E9 one that way.
