Description: Legnum VR4 Type S Auto/Tiptronic

I am potentially being swayed by a new car, so the VR4 needs a home. The car is well known in the club and you can trace its history on CVR4 (if you are that way inclined). ***Deposit now placed on replacement car!!!***

We bought it with no MOT in May 2009, after it had been sat around for a year or so not being used by its previous owner. We have since spent a fortune on it sorting out various niggles and the car is almost back up to scratch. At least it no longer leaks anything :)

New stuff

• Rocker cover gasket, PS/aircon & alternator belts replaced in August 2009
• New battery in January 2010
• New radiator in February 2010
• Fully AMSOIL’d – engine oil replaced by ‘us’ (in April 10 at 79k) and all other fluids by Nick Mann in May 2010 (gear box, rear diff, AYC and brake).
• New front discs and pads in April 2010, comes with rear discs and pads ready to fit.
• Partial respray in May 2010 – front bumper, front wings, lower passenger door, rear panel and part of the roof. Broken door stay welded at the same time.

Good bits

• Full brembo conversion all round
• FL front bumper and grille
• FL Plain CF bonnet from recent CVR4 group buy
• Recaro Ergomed front seats, with electric heating/cooling and various other adjustments
• Rear Cusco strut brace
• Tein lowering springs
• Fujitsubo exhaust
• 4 new Falken tyres less than 3000 miles ago
• Triple gauge panel incorporating Boost, Oil temperature and Oil pressure
• Carbon effect dash

Bad bits

• Red AYC light is on – it has already had a new switch but it’s never really bothered me so I’ve not worried about it. AYC does work though, as resetting the ECU usually gets it going for a short time, before the red light comes back on again – presumably the switch needs altering or it may need a replacement pump?

• SRS light is on – this could be due to the wheel, seat or steering wheel changes, I guess? Again, I’ve always just ignored it!!

• Usual few parking dings on rear doors.

• Drivers seat bolster needs replacing/recovering.

Overall, it is a sound car. We have done over 10k miles in it and other than the things mentioned above, we have found no issue with it. It is used for my short daily commute but we have also done several long runs in it plus one session on track at Combe, as a shake down with no issues.

Oh and before you ask, no – it doesn’t still have the blue lights on it, nor the 1.8 GDi badge, nor the stupid plaque on the dash :D

Thanks Andy :)

The replacement is pretty dull in comparison, but I think it will suit our future needs better - I'll put some pics up when we get it - hopefully at the weekend .....

Pics of the seat repair .....

It is completely sealed, so could just be left but we always envisaged getting it recovered and a new foam put in, just to make it 'as new'.

Ok, to elaborate on the AYC issue .....

The previous owner changed the switch for one of Malc's uprated ones but the red AYC light was on when we bought the car.

On advise from the forum, we tried turning the switch one anti clockwise turn and then reset the ECU. This got rid of the red light and the green bars worked fine on an enthusiastic test drive :)

However, the red light soon returned and we were then advised to try turning the switch clockwise. We haven't got round to trying this, so in theory, it could be as easy as this to fix it, or it could need a replacement pump.

We didn't pursue it as the car drives excellently as a 4WD without the AYC working anyhow.

I am trying to be as honest as possible and I am sure that someone more technical will correct any of my mistakes :D

The car is not perfect but it is in very good condition for its age, with lots of new bits on it and I think it is reasonably priced, even with it's listed faults, but I am still open to offers, as it is now surplus to requirements /yes

/edited to say that the history of the car in my ownership can be traced on here via 'Jane' and 'HJM'.....

Definitely interested in this car. I just wish someone could shed a bit more light on the cost of repairing this problem! :)

Worst case scenario its the pump needs replacing. Mo (Zedy1) on here breaks Legnums and Galants. He has a number of AYC pumps up for sale for £100.

Tisnt the end of t world!

Sounds good. Any idea of the labour charge?

Should only take a couple of hours to swap and about 1litre of ATF .

I would send the pump off to Harry Hockley to get them to recon it and check it out , it costs £150 but they do a real good job and only charge if they can fix it .

Falz_89
24-08-2010, 07:40 PM
Wouldn't it be worth getting a new one for £100 in that case?

Jane

They wouldn't be new at £100 - second hand from breakers, I would imagine?

chris g
24-08-2010, 07:43 PM
'New' one is a 2nd hand pump from another VR-4/Evo...

New from Mitsi...?

Over 2k last time I read a quote IIRC...

chris g

I had switch fitted to mine and then eventually a 2nd hand pump - sorted and no further problems...

Nutter_John
24-08-2010, 07:45 PM
Second hand pump costs £100 ,Say fitting costs you £75
so total of £175

If pump doesn't work then you still have to pay for fitting and removal to send it back for another secondhand pump

Get your pump recon'd and you KNOW it fully works before paying for fitting

That seems sensible. So I'm looking at £150 + labour charge of around £75.

Indeed. Only signed up this week and was expecting to wait a few months until I found a car I like. This one seems an awesome price, it's just a shame I can't access the funds right at this moment. *selfishly hopes that this car doesn't get a sold for a couple of months* (wishful thinking there...)

Bit of both tbh Steve - pleased, 'cos its just sat outside the house not being used but a bit sad to be getting rid - I like my big, fast estates and sadly the Audi is only two of those things!!

Yea over the moon with the car and can't wait to pick it up. Stunning piece of work and 10 times nicer then the stagea's.

Happy to be buying a car off such nice people that where easy to get on with. I think we chatted for about an hour about stuff other then the legnum.

Fingers crossed it's a good car to me and I hope I can squeeze as many mpg's out of it as possible. :)

Will pay up and be a member as soon as I get the car.
