One good way is to take the tints off :P

hids are **** unless you have proper reflectors or projectors fitted,

and illegal when fitted to lights that arnt suited to hid (our cars arnt)

new bulbs and a good battery are your best (cheaper) bet

Decent bulbs.

Also, run a nice thick (fused) wire direct from the battery, to a relay near the actual lights. Use the original plugs to feed the coil of the relay.

You lose lots of voltage through the standard lighting circuit (sometimes, the main power actually goes through the stalk inside!), and losing just 5% of voltage can result in light output reduction of ~20%!!

Also - most bulbs are rated at 13.8v, so anything less than that, and you're not getting full efficiency!

Tell me more confused. I am real sick of having power but feeling my way along the road. I've tried eating more carrots but it just ain't working for me. Nearly left the M275 the other night.....hideous. I also hate having to slow for BMW's as i struggle to see the road ahead. I did about a year ago look for a direct replacement headlight unit (Night driving has become a real drag) but other things took over. Winter is upon us yet again and I've done nothing to alleviate the problem. You reckon you can get a decent light by getting a better voltage supply and a change in bulb.........

Hids are a huge improvement on my 1972 Avenger, and I doubt that the lights were designed for them! Well worth the £100 that I paid, and am seriously considering them for the Legnum.

As for illegal, I thought they were only supposed to be used on cars with sef-levelling, but I don't know where I picked that up and have been wrong before!

I thought the stock lights where pretty good for a car of it age. Its 10 times better then my r32 gtr with projector lights and a hid kit fitted :)

just bite the bullet and stick HID's in there I never had a prob on the VR4 and the POS Meriva i currently have
Just go for 6000k or less 4k or 5300,
6k has a tinge of blue
I never had a problem MOT time beam patterns always fine
£35 cost me of ebay they all or appear to be the same

I had a hid kit fitted, looked great, but took it out. the beam was just too washy and went all over the place. you do need projectors for it to work properly. Swinks can custom build you some .

A few years ago I had the same dilemma about the lights on my car...the solution was a pair of glasses coz I was going blind! :(
I think the standard lights in the VR are actually pretty decent but am still interested in hearing how these HID's work out for you :)

Mr Swinks...... You are right! I used the search facility contraption and someone with a name just like you had already completed the project work with a nice write up as well!!! I also spoke to Glenn (Wodjno) last night who also mentioned your name as I was bleating yet again about this issue! £290ish seems better to me than 6 months in hospital and loss of earnings after leaving the road. Yes I know i could slow down but then what's the fun in that?

Madden, Mike....I am sending my 1 metric ton carrot supply onto you ;-). I know that our VR4s are not new but the Lighting is Bl**dy atrocious and I for one will not be putting up with it for much longer. When I drove a ford focus to Brize Norton leaving for Afghanistan I was almost enjoying the experience because i could see further that the candle flickers that are the Vr4's(what was i thinking).............

Mr Swinks you may regret posting your helpful comments and crack under further questioning...hehe
