Well I thought i'd post my custom gauge pod that i've been making, still not 100% completed but you can see the general idea.
It's my first time working with fibre glass and really didn't have too many hassles but just wanted it in.
Still need to make yet another gauge holder using the clock piece...when I get time.

Yea, just blocked them for now until I can work out some sort of cap for the vents. :D

All I am going to do when I complete my gauge pod is to just silicon block the vents. :)

Working with 52mm gauges is pretty easy isnt it? lol

Or you could fit 2 gauges and keep driver vent.. I couldn't do without the driver vent ...

Well I thought that the driver and passenger both have their own by the door so I didn't really need the centre ones.
I do like yours too  but where did you put your hazard button? I moved mine to the right hand side.

Next is to take the clock section out and custom make that for two more gauges (Oil Pressure and Oil Temp). /woot2

Or you could put three 45mm in there.

Or you could put three 45mm in there.

I've already got the 52 mm gauges for it so I don't have three to fit and couldn't fit three under anyway.

Also I want to keep it at the same height across the dash (if possible) so I'll be using the current clock cluster.

Right, managed to get some time to finish stage one of the custom gauge install.
Centre console before playing around:
39475

Playing around with the vent section:
394743946939470

Centre console reinstalled with custom gauge holder:
394733947139476

Close-up of paint:
39472

Now just waiting one a part to arrive so I can complete the second stage with the clock section.

Wodj - where's the hazard warning light switch in that pic you attached?

Hmm, I'm about to fit 3 gauges to mine with a single din holster, I'd much rather do something like this as I always leave my centre vents closed off as I have my phone just above it in a cradle.

have you made an entirely new panel or modified vent one?

I modified the original one by popping out the vents, then using a dremel to cut the hazard connection out.
Then I just used a soldering iron to (tap) melt it into the new position.

I then went through and fibreglassed the section where the vents and hazard swith were, about three sheets I think.
Once that was all done, I drilled the holes out for the gauges then used plastic putty to smooth it all out.

I would love to do that but I know if I tried it it would end up looking like a two year old got his hands on it! Fair play m8, looks gr8. How long did it take?

Ummm the work itself was roughly, 1 day for dismantle, fibreglass, then the next day was using the plastic putty.
Then as per the very first post I had only roughly painted it (this was like three months ago I think :sigh:)

Completed it last weekend by fixing up the pin holes in the putty (using a spray putty compound) and fixing the hazard section up.
Then it was just painting that took the rest of Saturday and most of Sunday.

Painting was a little difficult because I was doing it outside with the wind blowing the paint away from it's destination!

The only installs I have seen with gauges in the clock section are 45mm ones like the below:

39499

Personally I don't want the gauges to be different heights and bits hiding. (just my personal preference)
I have two 52mm gauges which will be installed into the clock area and you will see the entire face of the gauges.
If you manage to get three 52mm gauges installed there then :2thumbsup and chuck up a photo of how it goes.

These have to be 45mm gauges, the 52mm ones I have, the face of the gauge wont even fit under there.
Very cool and OEM looking though.

Nope, definitely 52mm gauges!

I have seen that install with my own eyes too! :afro:

I was thinking of putting just two gauges in the clock myself though.

Oh well, I'll hopefully get this start this weekend :D

Well the part arrived for the second stage and I grabbed the "broken" clock from my cousin (she has my old galant).
Here is the somewhat finished product (still need to repaint the centre dash and vent section all the same, slight difference in finish).

so how the hell did you guys remove your clocks?

I tried to lift it up and was thinking ot my self i am doing this wrong i AM going to break something!

Gizmo

Yeah you have to be careful taking the clock out! When i took mine out it was a right b*stard and i ended up snapping a some of the clips off and cracking the front of it =( Its just held in with 4 spring clips, a good tug upwards should do it, but like i said you have to be very careful or else you will damage it!

Guide i used: http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?51390-Guide-Remove-and-repair-the-clock.&highlight=remove+clock

kNuTz

I used a long flat head screw driver from the front side towards the back (like 2 cm's from the back side as that's where a clip is).
Then I just lifted it on up, then repeated on the other side.

(I did crack one clock because is was being stuborn, but I didn't need it as you can see)

Thought I'd bump this thread instead of creating a new one...

Just spent about 10 hours or so on making this little thing. It's been on the 'project to do' list for about 2 years now, and finally got around to it this week. The front face is not perfectly flat to the panel lines, but it'll do. Got to get some primer in the next few days and then spray it in a satin black/grey paint.

45726

I dont use the centre vents at all. In fact, with the way I have my phone mounted to the dash, I lose the driver side one anyway, so decided I'll just block the vents up and put the gauges in its place.

Got an oil temp, oil pressure and the AFR gauge to go in. Should look pretty good once its finished.

And I can then do onto 'big projects 1 and 2'.

Yup, it's been a project I've been wanting to finish for ages now. The one I'm moving onto next was started when I first got the car! Thats now three years ago. I'll post up a new thread for that once it gets underway.

Well I've done a test fit, and wired up the gauges for power, and must say they look the part.

45750

However, from the driver seat position, there is a fair bit of reflection and glare coming from the gauges as they are not quite pointing toward the driver. I'll be trying a 2nd version in the next week so hopefully I can get the aim right on it.

i have 1 alreasdy with them angled toward driver somewhere but id need to dig it out, careful not to obstruct the other 2 guages behind the first ok.

Hopefully my setup helped you with yours ;)

I don't find any glare issues with my gauges, unsure if mine are slightly adjusted more to drive or not but don't have the issue with my "clock" area gauges either.

Hope you manage to sort it out, I love where I have placed my ones.
