Hey Guys,

Well i have become one of those who digs the iPad big time and thinking about mounting one inside the VR4. Now i have done some digging around and know that i can use things such as Suction mounts in the window and such...but i really want it to replace the double din with the iPad.

Not sure how feasible this is or if i am chasing pie in the sky, however wanted to know if anyone out there is good with Dash Modifications that could lend a helping hand maybe...?

As i said, ideas stage at the moment, just want to see if it is even possible first.

Cheers,

Maxus

anything is possible mate,at the end of the day its your choice.
personally i wouldnt do it due to costs and the amount of effort required.
but good luck if you decide to do it

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the feedback thus far. My main concern which seems to be echoed by you all is...will it fit the dash or not? I really do-not know at the moment, one company is looking to release something of interest that might help me:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=4&ved=0CC0QtwIwAw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D5Sk ltRqOF5k&ei=Ifd8TLPBFYL-8AaM-OnuBg&usg=AFQjCNFFcsT1vflzJ2JFKeIbDUcn45DB-g

Naturally i would prefer something more...integrated, dependent upon cost though.

Awesome! If you can see how feasible this is i would appreciate it, just to test the water and all...the dimensions are as follows:

242.8 mm (9.56 in) (h)
189.7 mm (7.47 in) (w)
13.4 mm (0.53 in) (d)

Cheers for the support and ongoing discussion, this is what makes Club VR4!!

Very cool and sparked an idea after your comment Mr.POM!

What if we managed to mount one in portrait mode but then it could "pop out" on some kind of mount that could be turned landscape? :O

That way I get the best of both worlds! Random idea I know, but this thread is all about idea-bouncing after all :D

Keen to see if vr4wgn manages to come back with any ideas.

Cheers,

Hey VR4WGN :D

I would offer to send over my iPad, but i am too attached to it :P

How much would it cost for fund something like this? Dependent on cost depends if we progress or not.

The cost of a dash and then fiberglass and labour

maxus you are aware there are many companies in this country who could quite easily build an ipad into your dash?

although i sort of feel there are some very huge downfalls to this setup.

i myself and planning on installing a carputer setup to my legnum, but as i like my music there is no way i could accept a 3.5mm jack as a way to transmit my sound to my processor unit.

which is an advanatge for the car PC as i have found more than one with optical audio outs.

Hey Pugme!

Thanks for the feedback, I figured there would be a few companies but wanted to draw on someone who may already have experience with VR4 dashes to make sure i get a nice job done, plus keeping it in the club is always a good thing, right? You scratch my back I scratch yours kinda thing.

Also out of interest, you mentioned that you would not advise using the Jack (I will be using the dock connector, but still, it's analogue) due to it not being optical, so how do you plan to get the signal from your audio processor to your amp(s)? At some point I assume you will need to go analogue too, unless you have some awesome-cool trick up your sleeve? :D

VR4WGN - thanks dude, any idea how much in terms of cost? (roughly that's all).

Cheers,

Maxus

in my other car i run an alpine hub system

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4863.html

this once connected to a screen will effectively give me a radio. with the option to attach many other alpine goodies from cd changers, dvd changers, sat nav, tv etc etc

i plan to use a 8" hdmi screen, the hub alas will have to be connected via video rca.

next up will be a carputer which will run windows, and have optical and hdmi outs on it, the hdmi will run direct to the screen, and the optical will run to this expansion box which is wired to the hub.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ckjjvHL55dz/p_500PXAH701/Alpine-PXA-H701.html

so this way i will have optimal sound quality coming from the harddrive of the PC to a full graphic equaliser of which all my amps will be connected to!

rather than using a 3.5mm jack to carry signal perhaps using a processor which has some sort of direct ipod in port which im sure will give a much better sound quality, otherwise what you have is effectively no different to having a 3.5mm to RCA lead and plugging your phone into your headunit via a aux in!!

sorry if i now seem geeky! :D

done a bit more research tonight :)

the ipad has a 9.7" screen but the overall dimensions are 242.8 × 189.7 × 13.4

where as this 10" screen has dimensions of 235 mm * 35 mm * 163 mm

http://www.carcomputer.co.uk/shop/monitors/hdmi-monitors/lilliput-fa1011-np-c-t-10-1-hdmi-dvi-touch-screen-monitor

by relocating the CC panel to below the screen this will "just" fit, but if i remove the outer casing i think it will be an easy fit.

measuring down from the top edge of the CC panel 165mm the width between the dash is exactly 235mm thus meaning there is no possible way of moutning the ipad landscape style without removing airvents etc.

hmmmm just waiting for the end of the month and may order this screen and an extra dash!! lol
