My dealer said he could use an additive, but I stay away from them. HE said it was not required.

Do a search on oil and read the threads.

Try also a search on the term 'Lash Adjusters'. ;)

If Im right then they are similar to the FTO - GR tappets and cant be adjusted, however new ones are quite cheap from mitsi so it may be worth replacing them to have a sweet sounding engine.

Yep - the 4G63 in the GLS uses hydraulic tappets and they either are in tolerance or not - If not, sling 'em and replace with new. Don't do this before you've at least tried an oil flush or adding some hydrauilic valve lifter treatment. I did this to my GLS at about 88,000... And it cleared them out and shut them up again. They block *very* easily.

like Kieran has said"lashers" near all galant's get this and it's nothing to worry about, other's have replaced them with new over sized one's,just for the noise to return!
also dont use "full synthetic" in a GLS only use "semi-synthetic".as an additive (of sort's) i use slick 50 in my GLS.
my GLS is a 98 R,87000miles with lasher noise, oil change every 4500 miles from new the noise it's just another annoying mitsy thing?

I have 121,000 on my 4G63, and I just take the lifter ticking as a sign my oil change is due ;)
