So im thinking of replacing the following in my galant vr4

2 tweeters
2 door speakers
2 rear speakers
shelf mounted sub

Im not wanting to spend a fortune but don't wanna buy crap that is just a waste, so any suggestions?

Depends on your budget mate. You can get Alpine, Pioneer etc for cheap with the quality getting better as you go up in price. Sound deaden your doors too....

You need an amp, in your case, with sub, at least five channels or two amps; one four channel, the other a mono or two channel. Get the most watts RMS (ideally 20hz-20khz with 0.01%THD, some use 1KHz too) you can afford; not 2000watts peak power ****e.

Budget for earth, power, remote leads, RCA / phono leads, speaker wires.

Rear shelf sub - unless you can get a sub designed for free air use, it will sound pants. Better bet is to use 6x9 speakers mounted on a strong wood / mdf shelf, covered with acoustic carpet for security.
