I am trying to set up the oil temp gauge after installing it. /help

What temperature should i be seeing for a) normal drving; b) 'spirited' driving, ie thrashing it?

Thanks.

I would say anything from 85C to 100C for normal driving. Up to 120C for hard driving, and getting towards 140C on track, are acceptable limits, IMO.

Some folk will report different ranges, based on experience. I would also state that using a high quality fully-synthetic oil will deal with those temperatures no problem. In fact, I understand that Amsoil's 0w-30 will withstand 170C before breaking down.

Thanks Nev, thought it might be something like that. Now, i have to get a resistor so i can get the gauge (mini Evo gauge) to display values in that range. It's showing 140C at the mo!!

As Nev said,85-100C,mine never went over 100C.I`m using 0W-30 Amsoil as well.

Do you guys know anything about wiring resistors? I think it goes from one side of the sensor wire to the ground wire on the gauge?

Also, i've ordered a 220 ohm 1watt resistor. Any good?

Resistors??
I have no resistors put in line with my gauge.
Shows 90C to 100C whilst cruising in reasonable speed, 105C whils 80mph, and up to 125C whilst trashing.

I regularly saw temps of 150deg plus whilst 'pushing on' at the Green hell in the VR4. That always ran amsoil.

Normal day to day temps alaways neared 95deg!

You normally don't need one. However, the 45mm Mitsubishi oil temp gauge had the sensor missing and i had to source one from RSpec. There is an article online about using a resistor to get the gauge to show a more true reading. Otherwise it consistently reads higher if left as it is.

Dont ask about the cost of getting a true evo oil sensor  :stars: :deal2: :rifle:
