do it yourself...

if you plan on running more that stock boost, and do a bit of spirited driving,
then yes a atf cooler is recommended

If you have facelift it will make your job alot easier to find a drivers side intercooler pipe from a PFL. They are different

do i have to make any alterations or would it just be bolted straight on? cheers

Bolts straight in. The pipe finishes at the bottom of the intercooler as where the facelift ones carry on up towards the bonnet. I myself have a 550x230 intercooler from japrace fitted. Took about an hour

I MIGHT have one of the pipes in question.

yip i have a facelift and used a pfl pipe that made the job easier, if you want a hand doing it i am more then willing to lend a hand.
all i used to fit my intercooler was a bit of alloy stip for mounts, 2 m8 bolts, the intercooler itself, 4 new clamps, one 90 degree silicone joiner and one 45 degree silicone joiner. as taylor said above took about an hour, 50 minutes of that was removing and refitting the bumper haha

What size intercooler are you fitting. gets a little trickier with 600x300 and imho that size is too big

scott.mohekey
15-11-2010, 01:51 AM
I can vouch for that. The previous owner of my car put one that large in and left the crash bar out to make it fit. I had to massage the area behind the intercooler so that I could move it back a bit and return the crash bar in order to get a warrant.

hedric15
15-11-2010, 09:51 AM
It's a 600x300x75..i think from the other posts that the center bar has to be hammered in a bit for the ic to fit if I'm not mistaken..

scott.mohekey
15-11-2010, 09:57 AM
I THINK that might be ok. Mine is a 600x300x100.

Adam.Findlay
15-11-2010, 11:19 AM
yeah 600x300x76 is a bit to big but you can either massage back the bonnet catch support as scott has done or cut a small section out of the crash bar and then reweld a section into it to cover the hole which would be my preffered option, just a matter of finding a welder and a grinder, i have some black paint to paint it when its done.
lets make a date then and yet another christchurch work day!

Thats not a 600*300

wintertidenz

That looks like a 600x300, just tucked under the crash bar a bit.

The member I bought if off from advertised it as a 600x300.made me also think otherwise as I didn't have to alter anything, not even the center beam.

too big. with our tiny pea shooter turbos, an intercooler that big is pointless. the temp drop on mine even when running 18ish psi was still phenominal

Definitely not poinless.. And because of our tiny Pea Shooter Turbo's is more the reason for it /yes

But having a core as large as that just creates more of a volume for the turbos to pressurise, therfore leading to more lag

I had no lag... No more than on the Standard Cooler..

Bollocks. Yours is way taller. The top of yours comes up to almost flush where the factory mount points are

Not so, I had to lower it down a bit remember, once I put the crash bar back on. When I got the car from the previous owner he had removed the crash bar so it would mount up to the stock mounts, so it sat higher than in that picture.

Adam.Findlay
24-11-2010, 10:02 AM
600x300x76 is fine. the lag difference will be un noticable. the turbos just have to work that little bit harder to get it up to pressure fast.
