hi all ,today as i was in the process of swapping my alloy wheels from
my old car onto my new one when one of the front wheel nuts snapped off
the stud is still ok but has the base of the nut fixed tight against the wheel
the wheel nuts the enclosed type, the recess is quite deep any ideas
as they are quite new and mint condition ,as i need to get the wheel off
bloody nightmare

tighten up the other four as this will take a bit of pressure of it ,and then try an grip it with something or try an hammer a slightly bigger allen key in to turn it.
good luck with it

cheers for the replys, but you have the stud sticking up a few mm then the base of the nut below that plus it is sitting down
in a recess really awkward to get too

Drill sounds like the best option but maybe you could post up a pic?

i think that might be the way to go ,is that drill the stud down the centre then replace the stud ,cheers for the advice

just drill far enough in to get the nut off.if you go all the way through you might damage where the stud is held in place on the hub.#
which could put you back in the same situation when new stud is fitted

Tighten up other nuts as far as they will go (without breaking too.. !).. Try and gently chisel off if you any space to get onto what's left of the nut, or do what they do with old locking nuts and hammer an old socket over the nut if there's space ...

Are they ali wheel nuts cos they mostly seem seem rubbish, even the pricey ones.. !
I've seen a £100 set of ali nuts undo every 10 minutes on an Impreza even tightened at 100ft/lb on a track day...

cheers for the advice, tryed the chisel not enough room even for a centre punch going to take to a garage i think do not want to damage the wheel anymore
used to have some different tools for this type of thing but left the motor trade and sold all my tools !
