I know insurance has gone up, but I've moved on from a 2 ltr turbo charged car, which I've been quoted £380 to insure..... Which, with full no claims etc, I thought was a little steep.
To an ickle old Mazda diesel.

I think £561 is taking the pish !!!!! Not impressed :-( /Hmmm

Dont need insurance at the moment, but who is the best/cheapest around in your views to cover vr4's? Bearing in mind I'm over sixty. (wrinkly old git). I'll say it first!

Direct line asked me if I owned the car. I said not until later this week or early next week, I want to make sure I'm covered before I collect.
Their answer was that you can't insure a car by phone unless you own it, only online can you do that. ??

I swear insurance companies seem to make it up as they go along. I know it is meant to be based on risk etc, but bearing in mind I transferred a policy & none of my circumstances had changed, last year I swapped my V70 (that I bought for £250 to tow a horse box & trash) in for a brand new C70 (£28500), the insurance was an extra £80!!!! How the hell does that work? Surely a far more expensive car should be far more to insure? I know they have better immobilisers & brakes etc, but they also crumple up easier & with airbags everywhere, must cost more to insure?

Most people I know with a performance car use Sky (only reason I don't is because I wanted to be covered to drive anything). Will defo call them when renewal is due & hope it hasn't gone up, again :(

Have you tried Elephant yet? They've been pretty good with me over the years...

Tried Shielas wheels?

To be fair I asked Flux for a quote on the VR4 every year I have owned it and never ever got below £1200, this year I think was £1400 and everyone else was under a grand fully comp, I only rang for quotes to barter other insurers down, even though each year it seems to be a waste of time.

Insurance is getting stupid, I am getting to the point where I feel that if insurance wasn't law in the UK I probably wouldn't have it, as their prices this year across the whole industry are a complete piss take, and after reading thread the other day where a guy on a bike was hit up the arse whilst stationary and it went against him as he was supposedly speeding, whilst stopped in the road just shows they are complete piss takers.

Their pisstake prices are also one of the two reasons I am selling the cars and getting a bike as it is cheaper to have a Ducati than it is a £300 MK2 golf GTI, and not much more than the Defender, may as well put my money into something I enjoy

My premium shot up around £70 this year (December 2010) as Highway, part of LV, told brokers to up ALL renewals by x% regardless of length of time a customer was with them or otherwise. My renewal was £520 with the additional £40 Agreed Value policy on top. The nearest I could get WITHOUT an Agreed Value policy (all fully com) was around the £800 - £900 mark.

The Mazda is now insured. £472 with...... Of all people .... Saga :-(

They were the cheapest of the dozen or so quotes I had. & for an extra £52 I have all singing, all dancing European breakdown cover :-) .... Via the AA. Because saga now own the AA ? Apparently ??

My grandad found they were the cheapest when he was getting on in life :)

Admiral all the way for me. Declared all of the mods like a good boy (power increase - wheels - exhaust brakes etc) and I pay around £500 fully comp which I thought was a good price. Nice guys to "haggle" with as well - esp if you run a multi car policy.

I was with them before I bought the VR4, and the buggers told me they wouldnt touch a modded car, and that was just brakes n suspension
