Well, we all probably have one of these under the kids beds or generally knocking around... My brother has always been heavily into the modding scene and does a quck and easy install on the xbox one. By installing a bigger hard drive you can 'back up your games' onto the hard drive, a 300gb ide will hold 50 or so games with ease, emulators and the like can also be installed. So, digging the spare xbox out, i set about installing in the leggy. I did not want it to be invasive eg cutting of trim so went for an install that wouldnt leave the car 'scarred'.

The console catches against the brace bar that runs underneath the passenger seat when pushed halfway, removing the lid and drives showed that it would fit and sat back far enough so there was still leg room for kiddies in the rear. Butchery therefore began to ensure the drives were lower than the case sides.

Caddy for dvd 'modifed' at rear to lower rear of dvd drive. Lowers it about 5mm which does the job.

Controller port relocation (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll297/Seems_Unlikely/Xbox%20original%20install%20in%20car/DSC00068.jpg)

Controller port moved to side of case so that wireless controller reciever can be fastened to side. Fits beneath dvd caddy, I used port 2 as wires reach without stretching.

Sat and snapped off the parts that stuck up on hard drive caddy. Ugly but functional.

IDE cable has room to fit within case.

Does it fit? Yes.

The case top wont fit on the rear half without fouling, however continuing the butchery theme i'm going to cut the lid in half crossways so that it is fitted at the front to tidy up the finished look. The metal insert has been removed from the inside of the lid and fitted to the xbox to do whatever it does in a interference prevention style.

The power supply is currently being done with the inverter shown. However i'm on with modifying a carputer m2-atx supply board for use in the xbox. The 5V switching signal needs reducing to 3V for the xbox, circuit being made this next week, if it works i'll have a circuit board that people can get off me should they want to try this themselves. The xbox is very heavy consumption on the 12V line so the m2 may not cope, benchmarking will occur once the psu converter is made and running. Hopefully then i wont lose my place in burnout revenge when starting the car!

The little fitting on the front is a dvd remote reciever, i should be able to play dvds with this.

The screen is asingleDIN fold out jobbie that set me back £40. Other than the lights not dimming when you turn sidelights on it is ok.

Head unit showing up terrible job of fitting the carbon fibre look film (http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll297/Seems_Unlikely/Xbox%20original%20install%20in%20car/DSC00074.jpg)

The sound out of the screen is connected to the stereo, using a cable that came with one of the nokia phones we had.

So, all in all, it aint a carputer, it cant run evoscan, but it does have 50 or so games on it, and depending on what you've got knocking around it can be done for peanuts. My set up has cost me £40 for the screen, the PSU mod set up all in is going to cost me another £25. Everything else i had. Any questions just ask.

I've done one of these too but mine is mounted on the side of the boot. I removed the DVD drive from mine once I'd copied all my games on to it which made plenty of room for the wireless controllers inside. There wasn't much point keeping it as it's hooked up to a double DIN head unit that will already play DVDs. The case is more or less standard except that I filled all the controller ports and painted it. A proper car PC power supply is definitely the way to go too - it'll keep running even through an engine start!

You can also mod these to play videos, mp3s (music) and photos. I modded my old one for my grandad and stuck a load of old classic films on it, he loves it. =D

I may get round to dropping mine in the hole that the Mitsi Nav system left under the boot side floor panel, keeping the dvd drive for now as the screen is just a screen with no dvd, and my youngest can watch dvds when stuck with me.. Like i said, it's just a make do with what i had job at the time, overhauling the brake system, transmission fluids, and bringing servicing up to date is where the bulk of my money gets spent ATM!
