Hi Guys,

Changing from 1st to 2nd yesterday and I couldn't find 2nd!
What happened was 1st, 3rd, and 5th were now where the neutral used to be, and neutral was down at the bottom where 2nd, 4th and reverse were.

I brought it to a garage this morning and he looked round the back of the engine and said that a bracket was broken.
I can get into 1st, 3rd and 5th fine so can drive it but parking is an issue.

Anyone had this problem? I'd hate for this to cost me a fortune...

Yes. It's the selector bracket thats broken.. The part of it that give way is the anti vibration padding breaks away from the bracket.. I had it on mine.. I took the bracket off, and drilled and bolted it either side. The fixed it back in place. That was over a year ago and no issues since..
Job take about an hour at max..
There was someone on here recently in NZ, that had the same issue. They, i think purchased a new 1 from Mitzy. Can't remember the price though. Wasn't too bad if i remember correctly.. Prolly around £50.. But don't quote me on it..
This is the part you require if your going for a New 1..

as wodj says, just bolt it, Mines been like it for nigh on 2 years, and my old v6 has been like it nearly 3, both work a treat

Thanks Wodj et al.

easier to fix once the elbow and the MAF are removed. The bracket is held in place on top of the gearbox by a couple of 10mm bolts. You will beed to remove the retaining clips which hold the cables remembering to note which cable goes where. These clips are similar to the ones used to hold the brake lines in place (if you know what they look like)

Thanks guys! I got a guy to repair the bracket for 60 euro. All's good now with the gear changing.
This 1997 car seems to have a new issue every month!
