in all fairness i did a quick job, it isnt perfect on the top panel (heater vents) and here is where you will have a really tough time covering that part with fabric. the rest would be easy enough though.
this is the diNoc i used so it actually has texture too, waaay better than just the foil or plain carbon look sheet.

i take it the vents and controls just pop out of the panel?

yes, the bottom section just pops off and you can remove the cig lighter wires, the AC hose and 2 plugs from the heater control unit.
The top section, the vents, is best to push up the two metal retainer clips from below then just pull out (you will see these easy enough once the bottom part of the console is off). you can then dismantle the hazard light switch, vents and directional slatted thingy easily. as i say Dave, covering this top section in fabric would be a challenge to get right i think

aha, yes, many cooks and all that. i was fortunate enough not to have any help :-)
i have to say i prefer doing larger objects liek panels with this diNoc, i found it harder to cover the smaller plastics here. i guess if i had taken more time maybe......

the longest part is hairdryering the stuff to mould it to the curves of the plastic

Standard Mitsu stereo in there. I would rather have the gauges in front of me than have to look down for them IMO.

yep, ill be getting the real carbon console once readily available, but for now this is the stopgap as im NOT looking at that plastic walnut thing.
and yes, the 2nd din slot will become gauges, or at least the controller for those.

Aboo, the diNoc is perfect for bonnets etc, just search google or even ebay, its 3M, Di-Noc that youre lookin for. 'Underground Graphics (http://www.undergroundgraphics.com/)' do it at reasonable prices (and trade on ebay too so youll know youre getting genuine stuff as a lot of fake di-Noc around). ive done roofs and bonnets in this previously and it looks good and works out as an alternative to repainting. obviously real carbon is way to go for functionality, but if all you want is a spruce up and defence against stone chips......... ;-)

there is also the newer version, 3M 1080M which is very similar but still more expensive since its new.

Did mine a month or so ago, same as you had trouble with the vents but got there eventually but will be redoing them when i have the time, well worth doing, i hated the walnut look, reminded me of 80's Jags. Got mine here, less than a tenner and took around an hour as well

nice. i deffo like the carbon look, though that doesnt appear to be diNoc youve fitted Sy?. the main difference is the diNoc stuff as well as being textured is a 'dry' carbon look, so completely matt and non reflective :-) but yours looks like dry too?

i think i may do my vents again later too, especially if the real carbon consoles that get made up here are gloss finish like the mitsi OEM ones :-(

dont think it was, just cheap stuff but did the job well, is still quite matt minimal reflection, I'm happy with it, especially considering how small the cost was.
