1. Can't help you with.

2. Do a search on Lash Adjusters or Hydraulic Lifters. This is a very common problem, which doesn't seem to harm the engine - just sounds bad.

Hydraulic Lifters, stick some motorup in and it sounds like a new engine again. Great product. There is another product called XLR which has similar contents but didn't acheive the same result.

I don't know if you have motorup in the UK though.. :/

Wynns do a hydraulic valve lifter treatment. Basically just an oil thinner though.
Try a couple of flushes with cheap supermarket 20W50 (10 minute run with each flush) then finally some new fully synth oil. Does the trick when I get a noisy lifter ;)

Doesn't it cause problems if you mix el-cheapo mineral base 20w50 and then switch back to a full synthetic base oil?

Nope.

Nope.

Oh? Thought you couldn't mix a mineral and a synthetic base oil?

Synth is designed to be fully miscible with mineral Kieran - in fact stuff like magnatec is just that, a synth / mineral blend.

Are you thinking of brake / hydraulic oils, they're not compatible normally ;)
