View Full Version : 25ST disapointing?

Just wondering if other 25ST owners (or 2.5L V6 owners if that is better) are disapointed with the performance?

my wife has a diamante with a 2.5l v6 and that drives so much better and effortless whereas I have to ring the bejesus out of it to get any sort of performance, hers just cruises nicely, and when asked gets on with it and very little fuss.

I get to drive about 4 different cars every day as I have a car grooming business, one I have been impressed with as well is the Nissan Cefiro Touring (S/W), it has a 2.5L V6 and again noticeable more power and effortless cruising.

It just seems that there are many other equivalent sized motors that are better, and even some that are smaller that seem to be equally as quick, I just disguise what my car lacks round town by ringing its neck.

I had a K and N filter put in, new pipes and cat removed, sports exhaust fitted and it still feels the same.

I struggle to get 400km out of a 55l tank too.

I am thinking of taking it for a dyno test to see what it makes and see if anything can be done to improve it, maybe one cylinder needs a new spark plug or something, or the HT leads are shagged or the O2 censor is bollocksed, who knows, but it certainly ain't what I was expecting, and the disapointment is actually making me consider a change to another model, as much as the effort will be a hassle, and losing those gorgeous looks too, as no other wagon has quite the same edgy look.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Or am I simply expecting too much?

Hiya Krisby, :)
Sorry to hear your disappointment with your ST.
I've had my LEGNUM ST for 20mths now,and although its not a VR4 :( i have been more than impressed with mine(and so have peeps who have had a ride in her).
Before i had a Ford Granada Scorpio2.9 V6 and it didnt come close to the Legnum for accelaration, comfort, durability and most of all looks.I have on many occasions had the Legnum fully loaded with peeps and luggage, and she will still tear a strip off many supposed performance cars.
The Legnum 2.5V6 ST(or STR),in my opinion,is a very worthy VR4 understudy. :D
BUT i do agree with u about fuel consumption  .especially on urban driving.
Maybe a good service might help.
Hope you have some luck,
take care m8 :-D

Just read your post and to be honest i`m not sure what to make of it.
By that i mean I have a 2001 V6-24, Is that the same model as yours? My cars performance is `decent` enough. It depends what you`re comparing it to. My last car was a Sapphire Cosworth (hybrid turbo, chipped, group A this and that) and my Galant wouldn`t stand a hope in hell against it but compared to a Volkwagen Golf 1.8 turbo and an Audi A6 2.8 Quattro it performed favourably. I know there is a Eco friendly V6 on the market a 2.4 and its 20 horse power down called a GDi (gasoline direct injection) if thats it then that explains the lack of grunt. Then again, maybe i`m talking utter sh*t. :$

Keeko - the ST is 4WD. I think it came with a choice of engines, but I also assume we are talking about the 6A13 here.

I am not at all disappointed with mine. It is not a VR4, but the economy and performance are much more for your pound. (I can't wait for the next VR4, though!) Take the recent V6 times at Santa Pod - low 16's - against BDA's standard trim VR4 time from last year - high 15's. Seems good to me!

All I can think is that you have a problem with the power, or that the drive train is sapping a lot of it. Mine does quite well, I think.

Cheers nick,

I`m still in the dark regarding all the letters and numbers but i`m learning. Believe it or not the Galant is the first Jap car i`ve ever owned and to be honest i`m quite impressed with the way its been put together. The only thing that disappointed me with the V6 was it`s way too refined and civilised. The power is there but the engine/exhaust note is barely audible. A full stainless perhaps?

Ah, I guess its ok, mine is the 2.5V6, not the 2.4L GDi V6, so I believe it has around 160 ponies, though it should have more now I have a K&N, sports muffler and decatted, though I have not noticed the difference.

I think the main problem is probably the 4WD sapping power compared to other FWD 2.5L V6s of various makes.

I think in hindsight it probably is ok, I just got pissed off after driving back from Auckland, it runs at 100km/h at about 2800/2900 rpm, compared to my diamante which is about 2300rpm, and with the sports muffler on the my car it is just an annoying drone the whole time.

But I am putting up with it and after driving my wifes car I appreciate the virtues of the legnum everytime I go back to it.
