hoping this is the right area!

1. i bought a map2 of nick's mate earlier in the year and got round to getting it ready over the last few weeks.

2. iv added plugs to the existing wiring so that the map2 can be unplugged with ease. this was done over a week ago and the car has been running fine!
4606946068
these are half way thru. theres isnt bare wires anymore

3. today i swapped in the plx wide band, fitted the iat and map signal pipe/line.

with all this in place the car still started.

4. i then plugged the map2 plugs in but forgot to connect the earths /duh (to from map2, 1 with resistor from ecu iat)

5. car then didnt start.

6. as i was out of time anyway i disconnected the map2 so the car was in same state as point 3 and but this time wont start.

ive not had time to check anything yet (im crap at fault finding anyway) the engine turns but does not fire.

obviously first thing tomorrow i'm goin to check all the fuses.

any one have any ideas?

im hoping i ain't fried me ecu :anxious:

much appreciated,
ash

I'm not entirely sure what you may have done but when I had my Map2 installed I had several wires from the ecu which needed to go in and out of the Map2 before returning to the ecu loom. How have you managed that with loose connectors? If you disconnect these wires from the Map2 how do they reconnect to the ecu? The coil pack feeds are 3 that come to mind.

Hope that makes sense....

If u luk to the left of the pics. Iv fitted PC power plug things. They fitted in such a way that they can be connect to each other or seperated and connected to the map2 loom.

So let me get this a little clearer

You failed to connect the map2 to the earth
and
You did not wire in the resister into the iat and ground it

But the stock ecu was still grounded and powered and the car now turns over but is not starting

pull one of the plugs out of the engine and connect it to the coil pack with the bottom of the spark plug resting on the rocker cover , crank the engine and confirm you are getting a spark

When we remap the 7201's if they fail then the syptoms are that the engine will crank but it will not fire , so you could have blown your ecu

Spot on.
Will check spark tomorrow.
What am I looking at for an ecu if it is that? Standard or one of urs?
Also, if I get one of urs, is it worth me keeping the map2?

Normal ecu's go anywhere from £50 onwards depending on how many are around , the remapped ones go for £150

Using one of the remapped ones and the MAP2 will allow you to push the car further than you can with a stock ecu as with the stock one you will have to map around fuel cut , where as the remapped one has it already set out of the way

Cant believe I forgot! Realized as soon as I tried to start. Its there ready to bolt down :-(

So, if there is no spark, its blown?

Not sure as I have been trying to work out what it would damage by not having an earth , but as the ignitors are the only circuit effect by what you have done then its the first one to check

The factory ecu is still earthed. Its wired for Maf elimination. Although instead of earthing iat thru resistor to sensor ground, it was gona be earthed to chassis, same with the 2 map2 earths. With the hope of cutting less ecu wires!

So did you wire in the ignitor cirucits on the map2 to allow for timing control ?

Yep!
4 letters minimum?

Could have blown one or more ignitor drivers, or the ptu.

Cheers,

Ben.

there's no spark. would have said sooner but managed to trigger the alarm n lock me self out the car. not in best of moods now. lol
is igniter drivers ecu replacement?

Yep it is an ecu replacement now as the the drivers are on the ecu board

okies then... who has one and how quick can it be with me?

How do I find out if the ptu works then?

the only real way to test the ECU is a swap out with a known good one. You need to find someone friendly nearby to loan you their ECU.

iv had one of nj's.
still not starting. and as ben has said ptu (power transistor unit (i had to look this up)) aswell. figured thats next best thing to test!

turned out to be the ignition failure sensor!
huge thanks to nj for helping me sort it!

Glad you got it sorted. There was quite a bit of head scratching going on today....I was worried John might get splinters!!
