Hello all,

Can anyone give me a bit of advice on upgrading the wheels on my 2001 Galant V6-24? I want to replace the standard wheels with larger rims and tyres and was wondering how big i could go without lowering the car.I`m just looking to fill out the arches as the standard wheels look lost in them.
I thought about 7x17s with 205/50/17s or maybe 205/55/17s. I appreciate the overall diameter will be greater, slightly affecting speedo reading/gearing etc but the look of the car is more important to me than race track handling.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Brian

The V6 sport has 17" wheels with 215/45/17 rubber. I think they are 7" wide. A lot of VR4's run 225/45/17 rubber.

Doing a search on 'tyre calculator' reveals this thread (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3031).

Welcome to the club!

Cheers Nick,

I`m still looking at 205/50/17s on a 7x17. Still deciding what rims to buy. been looking through the members cars to get an idea of what goes and what doesn`t.

Why the 205? Is it a lot cheaper? The rolling circumference is almost exactly the same as the 225/45 - just 0.4% in it.

Why the 205? well 215 would be ok too. I`m just thinking along the lines of clearance/scrubbing and huge wide tyres on bigger heavier rims are going to be harder to push along. My V6 will never have the power of my last car and im just trying to make a compromise. I`ve fitted a K&N filter and i`ve been thinking about a stainless set of pipes to give it bit more....sound effect.
I know naturally aspirated cars are really at their best when they`re standard (ive spent enough in the past for minimal gains) but I still don`t learn!!!! I enjoy it.
