its a possibility - i'm sure it was optional on all estates.

get a dealer to check from the chassis number

is ur mate thinking of lowering it?
if so the rear setups are totally different between self leveling (estate), stock (estate) and also totally different from saloon !!!!

Yep, Ritch is spot on - self levelling shocks were a purchase option.

I just can say how it´s here at Germany.
From 1998 till 1999 all Estates had these self leveling shocks.
After the facelift in 1999 the Estate was still fitted with normal shocks.

But it´s no problem if he´ll lower his estate with new springs and shocks, because the self leveling function is only in the rear shock.
If he mount the new shock and springs, he have the self leveling function no longer.
It should be no problem to replace self leveling shocks with normal or sport shocks.

If he want to get only springs he have to take springs for the self leveling shocks (much thicker than normal shocks).
But I don´t know a manufactur that makes springs for the self leveling shocks.
