Whoooops !! :D

Did anything come of the one on auction (in Japan?)

Nick Mann

Not the coil, then? :(

And shouldn't the title be 'wanted - forged internals'? :dozey:

The Japanese one is a no go!

My engine munched another plug last Monday, I have changed it several times since then, but it now appears not to be firing. I changed the coil in a deperate attempt to solve the problem but at least one cylinder is dead (RIP). It still runs on 5 but its very lumpy up to about 60mph.......cruising is fine so I am in 2 minds what to do:

Swap engines with Mo
Rebuild mine with fancy bits

in the meantime anyone know where I can get a £50 runaround?!!!

Really depends what you want to do with the car. If you still seek more power and yet quicker times( :D ) then the rebuild with "fancy bits" may be the answer - but at a cost. Other components will soon shout for help as well.

Yeah, but I figure this is like a heart transplant so in comparison a kidney transplant will be a doddle!

just a thought.......but as there seam to have been a few "fairly-cheap" VR4 for sale of-late,why not buy another and swap over what you want to keep and if there is anything left, sell them of and re-coop some cash back?

1.7 race spec engine,2x40's,cam,L&B fly wheel,comp-clutch.......not fitted!!

Been in touch with Accralite this morning

1 set of pistons with rings and pins ~£750-870 per set
2 sets of pistons with rings and pins ~£570-630 per set
3 sets of pistons with rings and pins ~£510 per set

Anyone fancy an expensive group buy? :lipsrseal

Either that or anyone fancy donating to project VX as we will need 2 sets for that.

I am enquiring about rods today as well. :rolleyes5

So anyone with £2k lying around to donate to the 8 second supercar???? :D

is the V6 engine on ebay anygood ? or are the bottom end's different :|

enigma

Different compression ratios, and I would imagine lesser quality castings

Nick Mann
08-11-2004, 02:17 PM
Won't the compression ratio be down to the heads?

It may be worth a couple of quid to investigate.

enigma
08-11-2004, 02:19 PM
It will almost certainly be the pistons....................

Forged rods only £220 each - I'll get mi coat

Nick Mann
08-11-2004, 02:25 PM
It will almost certainly be the pistons....................

But worth a couple of quid to find out? The heads are different, as the V6-24 only has 2 cams. But the pistons could be close enough to get you going?

enigma
08-11-2004, 02:45 PM
I have some spare pistons and rods, but to spend £400 + vat on a head gasket set and all that time for it to be good enough to get me going is a bit of a waste! If I am going to tear down the engine it may as well get the right bits! :D

Nick Mann
08-11-2004, 02:55 PM
If you got copper gaskets, are they re-usable? Otherwise, I take your point and I'll shut up!

enigma
08-11-2004, 03:02 PM
Copper head gaskets *may* be reuseable, that means they wont!!!

Copper head gaskets and sealing rings £250 but I need a gasket for a template.

At this rate it looks like I am after an engine rather than a rebuild! :dozey:

let me know the final price for forged rods and pistons, you know Im interested, and just done a ****load of overtime so may treat myself :)

enigma
08-11-2004, 08:56 PM
Looks like the forged internals are out of the question.......I have enough money for one or maybe 2 rods! To rebuild it properly I am looking at nearly £3000 and then £1500 for the gearbox strengthening. :lipsrseal

So I think that I am after £1000 worth of replacement engine and a little less abuse next year! Or maybe install the emanage and make sure I dont lean out.

So if anyone knows of a running engine for about £1000 (or less) let me know

Mo?

Mo?

MO!!

...So if anyone knows of a running engine for about £1000 (or less) let me know...

There's a pristine 1.3 Litre CVH lump in my Mk3 Escort! 1985 vintage, only 37,000 miles on it! Oil, plugs, coolant flush and bit of penetrating oil in the bores before 1st start to make sure the rings don't stick and you'll be fine!

Does £50 sound ok?! :$

Hows about a 2ltr VR4, forged pistons are available off the shelf for this....

OK, finally, after 2 months of trauma and unhappy running my shiny new engine should be with me today! I will not hold my breath though until I see it with my own 2 eyes! There have been many problems and the first delivery date of early December came and went along with several others along the way! :rolleyes5

I am fairly confident though as the courier just rang me and is half an hour away! Having been involved in many unsatisfactory telephone calls I wouldn't be at all suprised if the engine is not right.......we will see. Dont want to get my hopes up but it would be a nice birthday present (that I had to pay £1000 for and wait 2 months!)

Testament to the engines though.......its been running on 5 for 2 months with no worries, and I did start looking almost 11 months ago! :lipsrseal

enigma

Errrrr........NO!

You may be able to come round and buy bits!!!!! :p

I want to get it on my engine stand and whip the front head off.......I think it may be entertaining!

I have quite a lot of other stuff to do before that happens though! :dozey:

Great news Dave!

Are you going to be fitting it yourself?

Are you going to be fitting it yourself?

It will mainly be done by my local garage (across the road!) but I will more than likely get my hands dirty and hopefully get some pictures!!! :D

I will reserve judgement until I see it with my own two beadies! Give me until about 5pm!

Had some issues with the supplier/courier........they have apparently sent me 2 now! That means there is at least another 1 VR4 engine up for grabs!

It was £1000 including all ancilliaries and is a low mileage unit direct from Japan. It has been handled in the UK by Nippon Spares in London.

It will never see standard in its truest form as the boost controller will go straight on, as will the exhaust and intake!

Is that a good idea on a nesh engine? Ok, I know it's used, but don't you want to let it settle in and maybe give it a service before attacking it with the 'MorePower' stick?! :undecided

OK... I did ask a silly question :dozey:

No talk of boost controllers please before I get even more tempted...

I will be running standard boost obviously!

The engine is here, it looks right, and it will be fitted by Sunday ready for the pod :lipsrseal
