Vibration every now and then

I have done some searches on vibration - saw some threads, unfortunately some of the links no longer work.

Just picked up my vr-4 today - on the way home (off motorway) I noticed a pretty big vibration occurring. Low speeds around 40-55k - next set of lights tried to replicate it but couldn't. Noticed this twice now .... I read that some people reckon it was a transmission problem. It has only done 64k ...

Small update, created a bit of a stink.. it is believed to be an electrical fault with the torque converter - apparently a known issue. Aside from that they are going to do a service on the trans. As experts :) do you think they are correct with the "torque converter" ? - also I quote "it isn't a major - believe it or not"

I think they are. Search the forums for "Torque convertor shudder" - You'll find out all about it! ;)

As far as I know, nothing :) - I said I don't believe I should wear this cost or claim via warranty. If they give me the car back and I notice it again I will be returning it and enforcing the Consumer Gurantee's Act.

Had a nice read about it last night.

They seem to be very accomodating - fortunately for me!

I spoke to my dealer today and he recommended a full transmission flush and then refill with genuine "Mitsubishi" transmission fluid. Est. $260.oo

When I brought my VR4 about 18 months back, same thing I had the shudder too. I would recommend you to get it seen to ASAP. The longer you leave it the more chance that your transmission will stop working. If your VR4 was sold as a 'C' class vehicle take it back to the car yard (if you brought it from one) Our car was sold as a 'D' class as it had just done over 100,000 kms. We had a mechanical (and still do) warranty, it cost us $250 excess the whole job just came just under $500 and 2 - 3 days to fix!

Thanks for all the info people. Heard back from the dealer today.. apparently all sorted but didn't get info as to what they did (sales person) - hopefully when I pick it up tomorrow it will be smooth sailing (at least for a month)

Sweet, you'll notice a difference too, it wont be as sluggish, ie - more responsive etc etc!

get the transmission flushed first. Marshall transmissions recommended mine had a problem with the torque converter, took it back to the dealer who said they were talking out their arse and just wanted more money, had the flush done and bobs yer uncle, no more shudder.

Thanks for the info, got car back the other day seems good now. Still awaiting some info as to what they did (dealer organised it all)

I have noticed though, in second gear going up a hill - a little shudder.. is this normal? no where near as bad as before.

I was just reading before, about legnum's being recalled due to break failure? - if my car has only just come into the country in the last month, surely the breaks would have been part of compliance?

I had the shudder when I first got mine too, but it went away after doing a couple of high speed runs. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing though.

Any recalls should have been done prior to selling yes, a local dealer had 3 in when I was looking but could not sell them because they were waiting for the parts from japan to fix the brakes etc.

The shudder on my car was worst in 2nd gear too, around 1750rpm, +/- 200rpm, and especially bad under load, like up hill, so if yours is still doing it I wonder if they have flushed the tranny, or done it properly, or worse, its something else. But I certainly would not go spending lots of money until the basic things are fixed, some places are simply going to say its the most expensive thing when it might be a simple cheap fix.

After finally speaking to the trans specialist they informed me that they did do a flush of the transmission. They also confessed that they did notice a small vibration in the lower gears in particular going around corners. They believe this is to do with some joints. Fortunately the dealer is happy to get this addressed.

Hopefully I can get down to some quality driving - and the high petrol bill... I am amazed but should have expected this, driving a 1.8 nissan to this beast :)
