morning guys,

A quick question for all the guru's out there, would this ball joint fit a VR4 front straight arm?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mitsubishi-3000GT-GTO-Front-Wishbone-Ball-Joint-/330264031121?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ce5452f91

Many thanks in advance :)

The straight arm new is around £200 IIRC from Mitsi.

I'd a look at Camskill & they're asking £200+ PER ARM! You can get cheaper ones off fleabay for about £70 but would only last a couple of years before I feel I'd like to change them due to ball joint issues. I've already got uprated bushes for the straight arms sitting at home but, the more I think about it, the more I think these bushes would wreck an old ball joint. As far as I know, the ball joints are ok just now but the bushes closely resemble a wizards sleeve! :(
This is whats kinda driving me to looking into other options coz there ain't no way I'm paying £400+ for a couple of complete arms I don't need!
Paying about £70 for a couple of balljoints that can be fitted the same time as the bushes sounds like a much nicer alternative...and cheaper too

If you search there was a big thread on aftermarket ball joint failures in these after market arms from camskill.

The usually results in you trying to turn a corner and missing.

So I would be very wary of aftermarket suspension components in this area. Just fore warning!

Yeah, I don't mind buying new ball joints every couple of years (or when they start to wear out). It would still work out cheaper than paying over 200 bucks for something I'd probably replace after 4 years say. I know the aftermarket ones can be dodgy but I'll keep an eye on things :)

I'm pretty sure this is for upper arm, not lower in subject

Arrived today, with a Brighton mitsy invoice, they look good enough to me, but tbh i couldnt tell the difference between gen/no-gen, they look like photos of other gen parts on here.

Nothing wrong with mine afaik, but I'm gonna change them as a precaution with the next service - Anything else that should be done at the same time?

Looks like a mits part number okay. Just check it ref the one on camskill, or post them up and I'll check em in the morning.

Cheers,

Ben.

The part Numbers are MR972465 & MR972466 (which dont match the camskill ref's LH = MR296295 RH = MR296296)
But does match some posts on here

Also - the auction finished at <£80 for a pair of genuine parts

I spoke to a mechanic at my work & he's trying to get hold of a set of 'Delphi' arms from the local parts supplier. I'd never heard of that make before but he assures me they're good quality & that he fits their stuff to cars all the time. I'll hopefully find out tomorrow if the bits he's ordered are the correct ones....
Why oh why do I always miss out on good deals on fleaybay?! :(

Delphi are a big name so should be ok ( i use Delphi droplinks on my vr4 and quality is good )

I have a spare Mitzy Original NS Lower arm here that is surplus to requirements. Mine have both been changed recently.. Let me know if you require it..

Those 2 part numbers come up as lower arms, but dont show as galant specific.

We actually did a set of arms in similar circumstances recently- i am pretty sure that when i searched via the vin number the normal part numbers came up, but when i searched these part numbers they did show as compatable.

Cheers,

BEn.

Cheers for all the comments guys. I'll wait n see if these arms that are on order are the correct ones or not. I'll post up part numbers for future reference IF they fit :)

Did you confirm whether or not these fit ?. It's a bit late now but i've just won a set of these on Ebay for £65.

I can confirm they do as I was on the phone to a Mitsubishi mechanic that was also bidding on them literally(just got off the phone to him)!

yea, I'm 99.9% they will,
I havent fitted them yet, but the price came up so good that I thought I would do it as a wear item

I recently had an unpleasant experience with that part. Fortunately when parking and before that I felt that my steering wheel harder working and does not rotate equally. so I wonder whether it has happened to someone and know whether a possible cause or simply bad quality! Mark was a Quinton Hazell and lasted for two years.

Yes, that is a common problem, especially with cheap aftermarket parts. That is why most of us on here use genuine Mitsy parts only for the lower arms.

I did not throw the old original arms so I assembled them again but I have to find a sufficient solution with some better replacement, the original is too expensive here
