View Full Version : D2 Racing RS coilovers - Spring rate?

When I bought my car it came with a set of D2 Racing RS coilovers. When I fitted them I loved how the stiff the car was but now a couple of years later I'm thinking about getting a set of softer ones for winter use.
Anyone have a spec sheet of the old RS Coilovers that tell the spring rates front and rear?

Pretty sure that the standard springs are 10kg and 8kg, front and rear. I understand you can ask for alternatives when purchasing though.

Yeah well that's my problem. I didn't buy them and I can't find any specs on any D2 Racing's sites. Gonna see if I can find a reseller near by.
Thanks Nick!

The springs rates are here...

I have a set of 7.5/5.3 from an FTO if you want to buy them and give them a go £30 shipped. I bought 22kg all way round for the drag car.

Brilliant Richard! Thanks a lot!
Are you sure the length and diameter of the FTO springs are the same as the ones for the VR-4? It will cut the rate down to about 60% and that might me just perfect during winter. Might need to tweak the dampers a bit though.

I can't understand why it should be so hard to find them. Too many of them D2 Racing sites and none of them look alike .....

Also have a word with Ben at Eurospec. The last set I fitted was supplied by them.

not sure on the lengths as there are 2 different spring lengths on all D2 kits, but the diameter is the same on them all.

Richard, I PMed Eurospec. I'm pretty sure 7.5/5.3 combo will be way too soft in the front on a VR-4. Thanks for the offer though.

I think those spring rates sound good, tbh. I think oe is 5 and 3?

Hmm OK. Well stock is way to soft so 7.5/5.3 might be good with uprated dampers for a softer winter ride. Then the only thing I need to worry about is the length. Judging from the picture they look similar...... Sorry if I sound reluctant but I don't want to end up pulling everything apart just to find they wont fit.

the good thing about D2's is that both lengths fit, one just gives you a lower ride hight, but because they are fully adjustable then you can modify the ride height independently.
The coils are 180 or 160 in length - thats only 2cm difference.

I guess you need to find out what yours are as standard.

would be interested too, what your D2 springs are like. Do you know what was printed on the springs? Mine do say 12.7-180 which does say that this is a 12.7mm wire spring with 180mm length. According to the D2 specs it says it is a 12kg spring rate spring...

I'll see what I can get done this weekend. I'm going to swap lashes on the car. If I get the time I'll remove the wheels and poke around to see if I can find any markings on the springs.
For the record my coilover tubes are not black as the new model is but light purple. Dunno if that have any significance or if they just changed the colour the last couple of years.

mine are purple too... should not make any difference as the K-Sports have changed color as well, but it's still the same like D2 (same manufacturer).
