Hi all

Just got myself a facelift VR4 Legnum and looking for help on getting to know the car. I have always been into my Jap cars but never had a Mitsi (came close with an EVO once) but generally stuck to Toyota over the last 15 years...
I'll be giving the car a good service soon and looking to change the cam belt (doesn't really have any history, so best be safe)
Looking for NZ based gurus to help in my quest for a kick-ass family wagon :)
Thanks

Hi, I'm in Melrose for now. Just renting temporarily until Feb, then probably going to end up further out of the city (cheaper) and I get the use my bike more then :)
Where are you based, any meets with local VR4 owners? I need to get to know these cars pretty quick.
Cheers

If you look at the Events forum, there is a small meet happening soon. :) And I know that we will welcome people to some and watch at Manfield next month too. :)

Where you moving to? We were up in the valley today, went for a drive up to Featherston just for the hell of it and to give the car a long(ish) run out. There is definitely something suspect when on boost happening. very hesitant, feels like an air leak or something after the AFM? Are there any common areas to look for on these? Splitting hoses at the turbo etc, or could it simply be the crappy air filter buggering it all up? Think some further investigation work is needed. I'll wait until my new EBC arrives so I can start poking around with it all.
Where is good in Welly to buy parts, modified bits, silicone hose etc??

Most likely Mt Vic or Te Aro. Id check all piping, the bov and get rid of the air filter. Not too many parts available in wellington, most of the good aftermarket parts are in japan on the japanese auction sites and aren't exactly cheap.Sometimes so goodies pop up on trademe. These cars are alot more fun after tinkering with the boost so 12-14psi max, a good air filter etc.

Yeah, there seems to be a distinct lack of goodies around :( Used to ordering stuff from Japan though, so no big deal. I think the fact that the VR-4 never made it to the USA means a lack of bits as well on the market...
Maybe next weekend I'll go over all the pipes and see what I can see (If anything) I should have the replacement stock airbox then as well, so I can fit that and give it a service. Got new oil and filter already, just waiting on the plugs to arrive. May do the Auto fluid as well but haven't found anywhere that sells decent ATF yet.

What oil did you get? I think 5-30 or 0-30, fully synthetic is what is recommended with these cars.

I went for 10W40, personally think 0 or 5 is a bit thin, especially for the higher k engines. See how it goes when I put it in :)

What brand? I used 10-30 or 40 magnatec in my vr4 and now in my airtrek and am happy with it.

Also remember to use a SP III ATF

Until I figure where I can buy the stuff I really want in NZ (Fuchs would be nice), I went for Valvoline VR1 Racing 10W40 from Repco. There isn't much choice there though and they didn't have any SP III ATF, just Dexron stuff. Where are good places to buy stuff like this? I would have thought repco is as good as it gets or are there any specialist car shops, maybe online?
I used to live just round the corner from Opie Oils in Cornwall in the UK, who were great for stocking everything you ever needed oil wise :) Plus Guy knows everything there is to know about oil.

You can buy it from mitsi or Hyundai. Otherwise you can get amsoil shipped up from Christchurch

Where in Christchurch? Is it an online shop I can get it from?

Do you have to go to Mitsi for a transmission filter?
