Hi peeps!

Just a quick question regarding the lash adjusters for a 6A13TT engine.

Do the 4G63 or 4G93 lash adjusters fit the 6A13TT engine without issues? Think I've read it somewhere but I am not 100% sure, so need confirmation from you. TY!

cheers
Stefan

4g63T and 4g93T will fit.
Get uprated ones for Evo. Still cheaper!
But donno if they will sell 1 and 1/2 set.

Are you really sure? I can get lash adjusters for a 4G63T engine (Evo I-III) with the 3mm center bore. The place I know do sell them in sets of 4, price is 10 EUR per piece. Which means you will pay 240 EUR for a full set for the 6A13TT (cheap, isn't it?). These are parts from the OE Mitsi manufacturer, sold under different name.

The 4G63T lash adjusters are in fact the same as 4G63 N/A - 4G67 N/A - 4G61T.

I can have 16 uprated tappets (3mm bore) being known for very good quality for 560 PLN, which is now approx 112 GBP. Problem is... they are selling full sets of... 16.

I am 99% sure that 4G63 tappets (both turbo and non-turbo) don't fit our car. I have been looking for absolute proof, but I can't find the info I know I have looked at in the past. The best I can find is a list of engines that take the lash adjusters that ours do by part number:

http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?12795-Uprated-lash-adjusters-anyone-tried-them&p=123468&viewfull=1#post123468

Kempys in NZ used to have a list of adjusters by part number including engines that took them, but I can't find the info any more.

I got a price from Veal Automotive Parts on part number VLA3214 for $12.90. I dunno if this is an internal or manufacturer's part number, it was at least a year ago when I made these enquiries. Emanuel if you can get trade pricing on bulk quantities, you should be able to crack $10 a lifter I expect. Here's a list of all the compatible vehicles for the genuine part MD376687:

Actually, now I am thinking about it, I think the 6A13 non-turbo uses the same lashers as the 4G63? It is a LONG time since I organised a group buy, so whilst I knew it all then, I can't remember it properly now!

Either way, if I was buying lashers for a 6A13TT I wouldn't buy Evo ones.

OK. Seems info I've had was messed up again with Galant VR4 6th gen.
Anyway, quick find of 6G72 SOHC tappets, stock one. Seems reasonable price:

If these are good for our VR4's then the total (including shipping) is just over 100 GBP, which is really cheap! Wayyyyy cheaper than the set I bought a few years ago from camskill (240 GBP): http://camskill.co.uk/m22b0s1399p6268/_MITSUBISHI_LEGNUM_GALANT_VR4_%28EC5W_EC5A%29_-_SERVICING_PARTS_TUNING_SPARES_and_SERVICE_ACCESSO RIES_-_Hydraulic_Tappets_-_Lash_Adjusters_x_24_-_Legnum_EC5W_VR4_2_5_Twin_Turbo_

And although the camskill ones are good and they keep the VR2 quiet, they're not the 3mm uprated version. Our Legnum is starting to really annoy me with it's tappet noise (engine is now just over 150000 km) so I'd be very willing to pop in a new set, and at the price on the ebay ones it's cheaper than 2 oil changes! Only question is: do they fit?

a quick search within ASA has delivered the result:

lash adjusters from following engines will fit the 6A13TT =>
4G64 DOHC - 2.4l GDI (as found in Galant / Legnum GDI J-Spec and EU-Spec)
4G93 DOHC - 1.8l GDI (as found in Galant / Legnum GDI J-Spec) & 1.8l DOHC Turbo (as found in Lancer GSR)
6A13 SOHC - 2.5l V6 N/A (as found in Galant / Legnum J-Spec and EU-Spec)

4G63 lash adjusters will not fit, nor will the 6G72 ones. (Evo and GTO)

Those from GTO, Eclipse, US Galant are 6G72 DOHC hence won't fit.

However Doamante had 6G72 SOHC engine, and seem that they have same part number like our 6A13 DOHC.

Been looking at getting some for mine, hate that ticking noise, which isn't too bad once its run for about 20 seconds, but it is still always there...
Are these any good, anyone tried them (NZ) http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/mitsubishi/engines/auction-437513101.htm

They are the best of the aftermarket ones Paul. :) The guy selling them used to run Total Performance, before he closed it down due to his brush with cancer. :)

Excellent, cheers for that. Might order a set soon then. Gotta take the cam covers off anyway, the front one is leaking ever so slightly, so I'm guessing an old a tired seal needs replacing on the cover. Do it all at the same time with the lifters and front turbo swap over :)

Do any members use the Pro MA stuff, MBL8 oil additive? Does it work? Could be a quick fix for now until I sort all the other bits out.

I have used it in the past and it works for 5000km, which is how often I changed my oil anyway

yeah same here, regular oil is vital with any turbo car, might give it a try and see what happens... :)

Not a long term one though, so the new lifters are the way to go... Might order some, just to see what it does more than anything :) Might come in useful on other motors, reading up its actually not designed to stop noise but to clean and reduce friction... Might try some in the R1 as well :)

When you pull out the old set, you may be able to clean them up to fix the ticking instead of throwing them out.

madaboutboost
07-01-2012, 06:14 AM
yeah very true, all I imagine happens is a slow build up of crap. You'd think using modern synthetic motor oil though with built in detergents, this wouldn't happen??
Ah memories of the good old days rebuilding Ford Pinto engines because the stupid spray bar above the cam blocked every 500 miles....lol

CANDEE

Even the aftermarket ones will clog up after a while, cleaning a set will mean that you will only have to replace one or two lifters which is a cheaper option. :) Am considering this for mine... I know where a set is... lol

madaboutboost
07-01-2012, 08:29 AM
yeah I suppose if you get a used set, give them a good clean and replace, could be cheaper but they will clog up quicker I suppose.

6A13T and 6A12 non mivec share lifters ;-)

6G72 and 4G63 share too.

Cheers,

Ben.

The 6A11 and 6A10 engines share the lifters too, along with a few other things... so that's another option too.

Hi Guys I'm new to the forums just purchased a mint vr4 2001 extremely well cared for and it shows.
My only gripe is that there is the subtle mitsi tick from time to time and drives me nuts (I'm kind of a perfectionist)
Oil has been recently done along with mbl8 however I'm wondering if anyone knows how to clean them or should I buy the non tick ones off trademe? Also how much is it to install them?
Don't mind paying for the lifters if it eliminates the issue once and for all, but if I can save money by cleaning them or something as I'm not the best DIY guy around lol I certainly wouldn't complain cheers

Welcome Dion! These lifters can be cleaned, but... it's no guarantee they won't tick anymore or start ticking again. Should you be able to pinpoint the exact lifter(s) that are ticking (seems very hard to me), then you could try replacing just those. Not sure if you can buy these lifters separately though. I've replaced all lifters (from Camskill) in my galant VR2 and although those werent with the uprated 3mm hole, they have since been only treated/spoiled with amsoil and for 3 or 4 years it's wonderfully quiet :) To be honest: I don't change my engine oil that frequent, just once a year. On the other hand: I only drive around 6000km a year with that car... :)

However, I'll need to change them on our Legnum now too, which has ticking lifters and new oil only helps very briefly. At 130/140.000 kms and NOT having had amsoil the first 99.000 kms I'd say it's around that interval that the lifters start ticking.

Thanks for your reply Mark,
My vr4 has roughly 110kms on it the ticking is very rare but I have come across 'non tick' lifters (full set) made for the vr4 for 250 dollars which is fine as that would hopefully eliminate the problem.
My concern is that i'll be charged an arm and a leg to install them lol.
I will look into getting amsoil for future oil changes, hadn't heard of it to be honest until you mentioned it and google says it's good haha.
As for the VR4 I'm very excited like a kid on xmas.
Has evo brembo brakes evo 8 wheels ralliart recaros (comfortable not full bucket seat) tein suspension nice frount mount and nice exhaust (not loud and tidy looking)
I call it my corporate evo lol!

Nick Mann

Corporate Evo - not heard that one before. Gentlemans evo gets thrown about sometimes!

Changing the lifters should be done in about 3 hours by someone who has a vague idea of what's going on. I can't help with NZ prices, but maybe if I give you the labour time you can take a guess at the labour cost.
