Hi all,

Posting this up as I've been trawling the Interwebs for a couple of hours now and can't seem to get a definitive answer, is the H8/539 ECU just a regular 7202 (and reflashable with 7202 ROMS)? I've seen a H8/539 with PCB number JE331B154C and box code MD340289 that's come from a 1998 Tiptronic Autobox Legnum (Pre-facelift).

49661

The numbers across the ECU read as follows:
H8/539
6K1 1
HD64F5398F16
Speaking with Nutter_John on the phone, it seems people have had issues reflashing these ECUS in the past, however I've found numerous pages on the net (this (http://ceddy.us/h8-ecu-wiki/h8-ecus/) wiki, a forum post (http://www.club3g.com/forum/3g-eclipse-gt-gts-specific/108846-looking-circuit-board-photos-2000-v6-mt-ecu.html#post2355909), even this (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?45190-H8-ECU-beta-testers) post on CVR4 kinda implies it too, this russian forum post (http://is.gd/gVlqoM) states this exact chip is reflashable but maybe with physical mods) that state that the H8/539 is simply a 7202 chip (or maybe it's vice versa), and reference the 7202 being reflashed with the H8/539F memory model / kernel.

Anyone able to shed any definitive light on this?

Steve over on OzVR4 has pulled the rom from one of these with the MMCFlash software with the settings configured for a 7202. He confirmed that the rom was the same EM2004/5 as the 7202.

MMCFlash is also able to update these ecu's. Here is Steve's post on OzVR4 (http://ozvr4.com/forums/showthread.php?11605-H8-ECU-s-can-now-be-reflashed&highlight=h8%2A539).

If you want to be able to update these you will need to fork out for a copy of MMCFlash, or wait until this is incorporated into EcuFlash along with support for the 7201, that might be a long wait though.

Hmm, that's some good and bad news, good that the H8/539 ECUs can run Kens mods (which is exactly what I wanted to do), bad that I've also got to purchase MMCFlash.

Part of me wants to buy MMCFlash and hand it over to the OpenECU chaps so that everyone can benefit :)

To summarise to others; The H8/539 ECU can be flashed with a 7202 ROM (including Kens ROM) however it requires MMCflash (which presently costs around £135 (http://www.evoscan.com/evoscan-gps-obdii-cables/details/32/1/performance-vehicle-pc-diagnostic-interfaces/mmcflash-software-for-mitsubishi,-kia,-hyundai,-suzuki,-mazda-reflashing))

I've been using the H8 datasheet to disassemble 7202/7203. Vector tables, registers, etc all match a H8.

I haven't looked at the flash kernel to see if it's the same or not, but everything else is.

Hope this helps :)

Just to update this, I bought said H8/539 ECU and MMCFlash, I successfully flashed Kens ROM to it as a MH7202F, I took a backup of the ROM before flashing it though if you need a copy, you can find it here:

Default H8/539 Auto.hex (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36481366/Default%20H8%20539%20Auto.hex)
