Is there fuel leaking from top when filling up? If so the fuel filler pipe on a lot of the Mitsubishi range of models are prone to rust around the neck and base. I replaced one on a colt and seen a few go on Evo's
Probably £60-£80 new from main dealer or even camskills. Not a major job to replace either.

not much goes wrong with them or any galants really. 6 1/2 breakdown free years is a pretty good record for any car manufacturer. just watch the wear and tear items like clutch, lower ball joints, brakes etc. not cheap to buy parts for but as they tend to wear rather than just break, downtime is minimal as you decide when to replace instead of being sat at the side of the road needing to replace. the V6 is the best of the non VR4s too so good choice

Rusted through filler pipe is what eventually did for the god of gls Powah if you guys remember it. If you arent careful as the pipe breaks up, more and more crud and moisture gets into the tank and does for the fuel pump, and then the filter and injectors blah blah.
Cheers,
Ben.
