I get the point, but with no funds making it go like fcuk has to wait! Lambo Doors will be an almost free mod that can be done in a day!

Yep, lambo doors are more likely to fall off, so when we do the 'test run' with muggins here as the kamakazie test pilot, I'll be able to pull myself from the mangled wreckage in less time.......... :lipsrseal

(seriously! :$, they look cool and get my vote!)

Can they go 'psssstt' as they open and close? And generate a small amount of steam so that Kieran steps through it after his triumphant return? :$

I dont know about a small amount of steam but I could purge the NOS bottle in to the door opening so he falls over pi$$ed when he gets out!

I think I have some info at home... I was real interested at one stage, but It was a bit of a ricy thing to do to a 1.8 GDI galant

I came across 2 different methods, one uses a double hinge mechanism. 3 steel plates if you put them parallel like some playing cards
| | |

You hinge 2 of the plates like a standard door hinge on one side, then the other hinges off one of the plates in the first hinge, but is hinged at the tops of the plates. That way you can open the door a little normally, then it hinges upward.

the second uses a curved steel bar which slides through a fitting which attaches to the side of the chassis. the fitting has a small degree of hinge which allows the door to come away from the car, then curved bar slides which of course brings the door upward.

Both use gas whatsimicallits that pruessure upward so you dont have to lift a lot of the doors weight.

I have some diagrams somewhere... if you are interested, ill see if I can find them for you.

if you get the right gas struts, you should be able to hear a pppssstttt as they raise the door. especially if they are heavy enough to raise the door without assistance :-b

WOW!!!!! NICE :-b :D ........do they need anymore tweek'n? have you got gas strut's for them?.......when will they be available to buy??????

(will they fit a car with standard wing's?)

enigma
04-12-2004, 09:01 PM
They do need tweakin' as the door overlaps the front wing on the way up, its not a major job, just a case of getting the angles right! In true BDA fashion I just went in and welded and cut until it looked right! Doh! :D I have a couple of struts in the garage, but I forgot them as I was in a hurry at 8am when I left! They are left over from my bonnet lift project :lipsrseal

Also the ball joint hinges may need some modifying as they allow the door to twist which is cool, but not intended! I am sure I will be able to sort it out for under a tenner!

Full production may be a way off yet, as I would like more time to perfect the system! But if you wanna give me £1200 you can have a pair ;)
