if i do not use ayc recommended fluids and use something "cheaper" what can i expect to happen?

and can one use atm fluids in the ayc resv?

If not right quality and cheaper stuff, failure eventually...

Use the correct fluids or don't bother

Use only severe gear oil in the diff site, SP-III in the ayc diff and actuation fluid...

i was under the impression using the WRONG fluid like diff oil etc would damage the ayc it self.

this is just my opinion

in the hydraulic side it does not matter as long as its atf, its just being used as hydraulic fluid.

in the ayc half of the diff i used mmc SP3 atf,

but have moved to nulon atf sp3 compatable has been working just fine for the last year, and im using this in the hydralic side aswell.
cheaper and can be bought at supercheap

if you use a non-compatable fuild in the ayc, it will be much the same as what happens in the auto trans,
the clutch's will shudder and lock up to quick eventually lunching it.

I agree with Carsten here - any SPIII compatible fluid will be fine.

I checked the specs on the Nulon stuff and it seems like it will be fine for our transmissions anyway, so AYC should be fine.

ty guys :)

The SP-III is just dexron with an additive to stop the shuddering, which is the usual tell-tale that the fluid has broken down... ;)

shuddering?

Just quick question - what is the fluid volume for AYC? To know how much to buy.

Something like 0.7L for the clutch packs part of the AYC, and 0.66L for the actuator circuit. Or thereabouts! So 2L (or two quart bottles) will be sufficient. Unless you spill it all over your boot of course... :D

Thanks, elnevio. :) Are the clutch pack and the diff in same compartment?

Yes, in that the fill and drain bolts for both the AYC clutch pack part of the diff and the normal part of the diff (that needs gear oil) are on the diff itself.

The AYC actuator circuit is fed from the reservoir in the boot, and this is the part that need bleeding through - i.e. can't just be drained and refilled like the other sections of the diff.

I think there is misunderstanding - my question is: are clutch pack and diff gears share same oil?

No - you need a high spec hypoid oil for the gears and SP-III for the clutch packs.

OK, thanks. :)

oh gosh, Im sorry to revive this, and I HAVE searched, but is the clutch pack the same thing as the ayc? (one thread said to make sure to read up on this, but there was no link provided)

Really, what my question is - what should I use to top up the reservoir in the boot?
Second question - could a low level in that reservoir cause the ayc light to show red on the dash?

The clutch packs are part of the AYC system, but are in a separate fluid to the fluid in the reservoir. The fluid in the reservoir is used by the pump which actuates the clutches.

Yes, if that fluid was very low, or thin, it could cause an AYC light, but is more likely a combination of the above with a tired pump.

Sorry guys, I still dont know what to top up with in the boot. What oil do I put in there please?

Mitsubishi SP-III

Mitsubishi SP-III

Correct, although if you were really stuck you could use Dexron. AFAIK it's less critical in the pump.

MM-SPIII or Amsoil ATF.

Yes, I use Amsoil ATF in the hydraulic circuit, because I've got plenty for the gearbox, AYC clutch packs and power steering anyway. But any ATF would be fine. As mentioned, the hydraulic circuit doesn't do a lot of work.
