Was told by my mechanic/panel beater that it'll be very expensive to fix so am expecting it to be written off. Waiting to hear back from insurance company

What damage has been done apart from the obvious?

Ryan

As the damage is confined to one area I'd be hopeful that it would be able to be repaired. It's also one colour which helps... Median market value I was quoted for a 1998 Legnum with 140 000km (I know that yours is a 2000 model) was $5250.

That said, the impact damage from the photos did look quite severe. When do you expect to hear back from your insurance?

that makes it look alot worse than with the boot closed, can see why it would be so expensive now

Yea it was the bumper bars pushing into the boot which then pushed that metal bit, cant see why that metal bit cant be cut out and a new bit put in but anyway

Mike, I gather the rear bumper is being replaced, what about the 2 trim pieces either side of the exhaust tip? If they are getting replace also, is there any chance I can get original the ones off the damaged bumper?

Depends if the new bumper has them or not. Car is most likely a write off at the moment anyway and I won't be buying it back.
