What Diagnostic cable and software for BMW X reg

Sorry to talk BMW on the this site, i know it is just wrong on every level, but i out there on a limb, am in a box then i am out of box, then i back in, no, i am out, you can't put me in box.

To anyone that has a BMW.

my mate is having trouble with his BMW and i have some software and a cable to read standard OBDII information. but it is not connecting to the car.

i have an elm327 cable and carsoft BMW diagnostic and other generic diag stuff.
do you think this should connect to BMW.

what baud rate should i be running at comport is set to 9600 1 start, 1 stop bit.

any help greatly received

how dare you dave! The best way to fix the bmw is a nice fresh can of petrol and a good old clipper lighter, but make sure you take your OBD cable out first!

Cheers Adam that is really good info, I will be using that.

As for the rest of you BMW lovers. I did think some petrol and match would be a fitting end for rust bucket.
But please accept my humblest of appologies for mentioning the unmentionable barvaria aeroplane company. I have signed up for a course in self flagellation, to repent for my sins.
